Beatitudes • Matthew 5….turn with me please…..
• Matthew 5:3—blessed= privileged one of divine favor, happy!
• Poor—-ptochos, reduced to beggary; destitute of wealth, influence, position, honors.
• He is not talking about physical poverty but spiritual poverty.
Poor in Spirit• Poverty of spirit is the opposite of that
haughty, self-assertive and self sufficient disposition that the world so much admires and praises.
• It is the very reverse of that independent and defiant attitude that refuses to bow to God. (Luke 15:11ff)
