17 As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to

him and fell on his knees before him. “Good

teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit

eternal life?”

18 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus

answered. “No one is good—except God alone.

19 You know the commandments: ‘You shall not

murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall

not steal, you shall not give false testimony, you

shall not defraud, honor your father and

mother.’”

20 “Teacher,” he declared, “all these I have kept

since I was a boy.”

21 Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One

thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything

you have and give to the poor, and you will have

treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

22 At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad,

because he had great wealth.

Page 9: 9.23.12 - Mine or His - Mark 10:17-31

23 Jesus looked around and said to his

disciples, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the

kingdom of God!”

Page 10: 9.23.12 - Mine or His - Mark 10:17-31

24 The disciples were amazed at his words. But

Jesus said again, “Children, how hard it is to

enter the kingdom of God! 25 It is easier for a

camel to go through the eye of a needle than for

someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of

God.”

Page 11: 9.23.12 - Mine or His - Mark 10:17-31

26 The disciples were even more amazed, and

said to each other, “Who then can be saved?”

27 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man

this is impossible, but not with God; all things

are possible with God.”

28 Then Peter spoke up, “We have left

everything to follow you!”

Page 13: 9.23.12 - Mine or His - Mark 10:17-31

29 “Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “no one who

has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or

father or children or fields for me and the gospel

30 will fail to receive a hundred times as much in

this present age: homes, brothers, sisters,

mothers, children and fields—along with

persecutions—and in the age to come eternal

life. 31 But many who are first will be last, and

the last first.”

Then the angel showed me the river of the water

of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the

throne of God and of the Lamb 2 down the

middle of the great street of the city. On each

side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing

twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every

month. And the leaves of the tree are for the

healing of the nations. 3 No longer will there be

any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb

will be in the city, and his servants will serve

him.

4 They will see his face, and his name will be on

their foreheads. 5 There will be no more night.

They will not need the light of a lamp or the light

of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light.

And they will reign for ever and ever.

6 The angel said to me, “These words are

trustworthy and true. The Lord, the God who

inspires the prophets, sent his angel to show his

servants the things that must soon take place.”

7 “Look, I am coming soon! Blessed is the one

who keeps the words of the prophecy written in

this scroll.”

8 I, John, am the one who heard and saw these

things. And when I had heard and seen them, I

fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who

had been showing them to me. 9 But he said to

me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with

you and with your fellow prophets and with all

who keep the words of this scroll. Worship

God!”

11 Yours, LORD, is the greatness and the power

and the glory and the majesty and the

splendor,

for everything in heaven and earth is yours.

Yours, LORD, is the kingdom;

you are exalted as head over all.

12 Wealth and honor come from you;

you are the ruler of all things.

In your hands are strength and power

to exalt and give strength to all.
