• Women must dress and conduct themselves in ways that are CONSISTENT with a profession of faith (setting the tone). (2:9-15)
• Men must PRAY (2:8), work and LEAD (3:1-13) with character and consistency (setting the direction).

• What is a calling to ministry?
– Practical – a desire to be a pastor, deacon, missionary
– Corporate – recognition of the desire in combination with abilities/gifts
– Mystical – an episode or period of “doing business” with God about willingness to serve by leading

1. Husband of one wife
– Literally, be a one-woman man!
– The leadership of a wife is a husband’s #1 responsibility
– The home is a natural “proving ground” for leadership

2. Sober-minded
– Where is his mind?
– “Where the head goes, the body goes”
– A seriousness about spiritual things
– A willingness to “sharpen his saw” often

3. Self-controlled
– Similar to the women (2:9)
– Passions under control by the grace and the power of the Spirit
– Harnessed energy for the task, focused

4. Respectable
– Similar to the women (2:9)
– An orderliness about his life
– Jobs are well-done under his leadership or participation

5. Hospitable
– An eagerness to engage with people on lots of levels
– An openness to share what he has with others, especially those in need
– Engaged in ministry already!
