Safety First Why ?
Results of unsafe condition comes in
fraction of seconds where as results of
all other causes (Pollution, poverty, poor
governance, etc.) may take days,
months, years.

W.H.O. REPORT ON ROAD SAFETY
• Worldwide, an estimated 1.2 million people are killed in road crashes each year
• As many as 50 million people are injured.

• INDIA- 1% of the world’s vehicle population accounts
for 10% of the Road Fatalities.
• Total economic loss to India annually due to
accidents Rs 3 lakh crore.
• 25 % of total deaths are among young people aged
19-29 years
• 50% deaths are among pedestrians, cyclists and
motorcyclists.

College fee : Rs 10000 /month x 12 x 4 years = Rs 4.8 lacs

• People follow traffic rules because penalty for violation is
high.
• In developing countries – no penalty or control by traffic
police.

Driving License Process
It is very difficult & lengthy procedure ( 3-4 months time).

Purpose of making lengthy procedure is to teach you all traffic rules & make you perfect driver.
If license authority feels that you have learnt every thing and will not cause injury to other person, they will issue license.

First Step
WRITTEN TEST
•Appear in online traffic rule test.
•Test fee is $ 40 23
Needs one week to read 50 page traffic rule hand book.

To memorize more than 80 traffic signs

•Online test
•15 out of 20 questions should be correct.

STEP- 2
DRIVING LESSONS
Must take minimum 10 driving ride with driving instructor before driving test.
Each ride costs $ 25

Instructor teaches you to read all traffic signs on the road & ask you to take action as per requirement of sign. Example : No U turn Sign Proceed to round about for going to opposite lane

After 10 driving lessons you apply for road driving test and get appointment approx. after 2-3 months.

STEP 3
Pay 150 $ for road test Traffic inspector will sit beside you in
car. He asks you to drive car for 20-30
minutes in the city. Every persons fails in first 2 -3 tests. When you pass test you get license.

During road tests first of all you have to check your back mirror, side mirror, adjust it if required.

If you do not check mirror, license instructor will ask you to stop car, cancel road test and to get
new test date.

DRIVING TEST When you are entering main road from small
street road you will find stop sign

You have to stop for 30 -60 seconds at stop sign. See left and right side of main road if any vehicle is coming.
When you are sure there is no vehicle in 500 m distance from both side , you can move.

• At no signal crossing, first come first serve

When some one allows you to proceed first at crossing, you should thank him by waving.

You have to see back mirror every 2 minutes.
Hitting pedestrian gets 6 months jail.

CHILD SAFETY
When you see school sign, you have to keep speed 25 km/hr.
If school bus is moving in front of your car, you have to keep 100 ft distance from school bus.

• Give left or right signal 15 feet ahead of crossing turn. • Overtake only from right side of vehicle moving in front of
you . (No left side overtaking). • Do not use mobile while driving.(No head set). • Move in one lane only. Overtake if enough space is
available on other lane. • No road rage. Respect other drivers. • Give 5-10 minutes time cushion for daily office /school
travel. (Last minute travel causes accidents). • Head light should always be in working condition. • Give emergency flash light if parked on highways. • No high beam light.

• Penalty for violation of traffic rules.
• Driver should have fear of cancellation of license.
• Subject of traffic safety at 8th standard in school.
• So that annually 1.2 million lives are saved.
