HSN home furnishings brand, Ballard Designs, looked to reward their loyal fans

and track the sales associated with the campaign to assign a social ROI. They

also aimed to gather new customer data and append current data to use for

future marketing efforts.

CAMPAIGNNIFTY GIFTY GIVEAWAY

Ballard Designs ran a two-part promotional

giveaway. The first part offered all Facebook

fans a 20% discount coupon once they reached

80,000 likes. The second part included the

chance to win $2,500, $600, or $100 in Ballard

Bucks upon completing the sweepstakes entry

form. To promote the contest, Ballard scheduled

Facebook posts leading to the entry page.

In addition, when a fan completed the

sweepstakes form, they were prompted to

share the contest with social share buttons.

Canvas also empowered the team to create the

Thank You page encouraging fans to share with

their friends. Social Analytics and Contest Analytics

showed the team their entries, network growth, and

link tracking results for quick campaign reporting.

RESULTS

Ballard’s Nifty Gifty Giveaway was a huge success for the company. Through coupon redemption,

the Ballard team attributed a vast increase in sales to this social promotion. Over 850 fans

redeemed the 20% coupon, grossing over $400,000 for the company.

Another measurable increase included social data. Not only did the social contest grow Ballard’s

Facebook fan count by 72%, the company also collected thousands of new names and email

addresses for its e-marketing database. Because Ballard is an online vendor, collecting data to

support promotional efforts is vital to their success.
