What is Business Counseling ?

Business counseling, also known

as business mentoring, is a highly effective

process that enables entrepreneurs,

business owners and managers to work

through, and explore possibilities on the

issues affecting their business.

Carl Rogers and his Approach

A pioneer in the field of Psychology.

Advocated a humanistic, ‘client-centered’

approach.

We all have a basic propensity to co-

operative, constructive behaviour.

Focused on the Counselor-Counselee

relationship

Four Basic Conditions

Counselor must show congruence

Counselor must show acceptance and

esteem to the counselee (UPR)

Counselor should see the counselee’s

world from her/his eyes (empathy)

Counselee must feel being fully accepted

(communication)

Reassurance

To find money (or sources for it)

To find relevant contracts

To develop a plan/project/proposal

To discuss speculative ideas

To gain allies in a conflict

To get a second opinion

Find marketing avenues

Act as facilitator to identify the steps

needed to be taken.

A reflective role: Putting the problem into

better perspective

of the counselee, Follow the lead of the

Understand Emotions: Observe facial

expressions, & mannerisms, Listen actively,

Focus on tones,

Wholesome Understanding : Accept the

fact that the counselee is a whole person,

not merely his/her current issue or problem.
