Trophy wife was considered a status symbol referring to an older man with a younger woman. Often she is white, thin with blonde hair. The history of the term reveals an era by The Economist of warriors capturing beautiful women as trophies.

Even renowned journalist William Saffire has written about the term'sorigin pointing to Fortune magazine in the 1980's. The Huffington Postattempted to redefine the trophy wife as the opposite of brainless arm candy but a woman of power and position empowering the marriage of George Clooney to Amal Clooney.
