POP3
POP3 is Post Office Protocol. POP3 helps an email client to download mails from a mail sever. POP3 is simple but does not offer other features except downloading. POP3 downloads all the mails from the server,deletes them from the server and then disconnects.
IMAP
IMAP is the internet message transfer protocol. It also has some features similar to POP3 and many more features than POP3. IMAP allows users to keep their emails on the server and it requires more disk space and cpu resources.
