1. Tupare Gardens By Jordan,Josh and Ari 2. Russell and Mary Matthews bought the property at 487 Mangorei Road in 1931 prior to their marriage. Also James Chapman Taylor did the interior of the house which is the special features that makes the house look cool. Russell and Mary Matthews were familiar with the work of James Chapman-Taylor through the house. He had designed and built (work began in 1930) for C A Wilkinson,mp for Egmont(member of parliament),.Also it took 12 years to build the house. 3. The Gardener's Cottage is where the gardeners live so they can look after the gardens each day when the Matthews go out. While the house was being built the Matthews had no where else to go so they lived in the gardeners cottage for 4 years. Some of the time they lived in the lounge in the house. 4. The Greenhouse has kept all the plants from native to rare. Plants are kept safe to grow a bit bigger until they are released to the world. Its one of the main features of Tupare Gardens. There have been over 2000 plants stored there over the years that Tupare has existed . 5. The Pond of history is really just a normal pond. the matthews used to swim in it and play in it. It was on the tv in the gardeners cottage. Now it has Goldfish in it.Its got rocks from the river on the side of the pond. 6. The River flat is a real flat area. It is an area to play and get some fresh air and its right next to a River. And there is a pathway from the river flat to the house.early in 1900 was a flood which flooded the area there in the river flat.Huge 2 metre boulders came down the river really fast . 7. The river is a place where the matthews got the rocks to make concrete to finish the house off and where they got the mine (which is next to the river). Also they used to clean the horses and have a swim sometimes when it is hot.In the river there are a number of fish species like eels/trout and loads more.
