What Are Flat Roof Lights?

Roof Lights, sometimes known as Roof Windows or Sky Lights are glass pane windows designed for installation within your roof.

As a general rule, the term skylight is used when glass is fitted within a pitched roof, whereas roof lights tend to be associated with glass units installed onto a flat roof.

The Benefits …

Illuminate The Space

Although you can never count on the sun shining every day, a roof light brings extra light to brighten your home, without the need for electrical lighting.

Add A Contemporary Feel To The Room

A well designed unit can bring a modern and luxurious touch to any room.

The clean and sleek lines of our roof lights can be used to enhance the feel of your home without sacrificing energy efficiency.

The Benefits …

Save Money On Your Energy Bills

A high quality energy efficient roof light will help to cut down on your electricity bills as you will not require as much artificial light.

When assessing the thermal qualities of glazing products, thermal efficiency is measured by the unit’s U Value.

The lower the U Value, the more energy efficient your roof light is.

The Benefits …

U Value

Its important when comparing U Values that not only is the figure provided by a system calculation, but also that its been accredited by an external body.

At EOS our Fixed roof lights boast U value of 1.24 W/m2K for the system (glass 1.0 W/m2k) and our triple glazed Eco roof light a market leading 0.78 W/m2K (glass 1.0 W/m2k).

The Anatomy Of A Roof Light

The Anatomy Of A Roof Light

Internal Frame: At EOS, our roof lights are designed so that your plasterboard finishes flush with our upstand. This ensures a seamless link between your home and the outdoors as there is no frame internally.

External Frame: Our frame is structurally bonded to the glass unit which adds to the strength of the unit while providing a contemporary design.

Upstand: In accordance with current building regulations your roof light should be installed at least 150mm above your finished roof level. We supply 150mm insulated upstands to ensure you satisfy current regulations while securing a perfect fit.

Glass Pane: Depending on your needs, your roof light will be constructed with either a double or triple glazed unit. To prevent water pooling our clever design ensures the glass finishes flush with the frame.

The Glass Structure …

Inner Pane: We recommend an inner panel of laminated glass, which holds together when broken instead of shattering to provide a safer solution. It also has additional sound proofing properties.

Cavity: The cavity should be filled with argon or krypton gas to maximise energy efficiency

Depending on the model, the structure of the glass may differ.

So what do you need to look for when making a decision?

Outer Pane: An outer panel of 6mm toughened glass is ideal from a security perspective as it has a very high resistance to breakage.

Types Of Roof Light …

At EOS, we offer 4 roof light models, each with a different benefit to you.

It is important to consider your needs when choosing the right style:

• Do you require ventilation?

• Is heat loss a key factor?

• Or is light your main concern?

Fixed

Our fixed roof lights are designed for installation on flat roofs with a pitch between 3 and 15 degrees.

They can be supplied with our insulated upstand or as a lid only.

Opening

Where ventilation is a concern, our opening model offers the perfect solution.

They are designed with a built in actuator that allows you to electrically open your roof light at the touch of a button.

You can also have rain sensors added that will automatically shut the unit should the weather change.

Eco

If you are looking for a superior performing product, our Eco friendly option includes a triple glazed unit with a higher insulation level than the standard version.

The inclusion of Krypton gas helps to further improve performance resulting in an overall U Value of just 0.87 W/m2K.

WalkOn

Add more light as well as a secure overhead platform to internal or external areas with a WalkOn.

The thick and secure 50mm glass is incredibly safe to bear heavy weight, and you can also have a non-slip coating applied if needed.

Dimensions

Here at EOS, we take our measurements internally rather than externally.

This means a 1000mm x 1000mm unit will be the equivalent to the competition’s 1100mm x 1100m.

More Light For Less Cost.
