They’re like TEFLON!
ENGO and TEFLONare made from a material called polytetrafluoroethylene.
It makes TEFLON the non-stick surface it isand ENGO anti-friction so it can stop blisters.

1. ENGO Patches can not help pressure-related pain2. They need a dry surface to adhere to3. Patches can come unstuck if the shoe gets waterlogged4. Waterproofing can compromise adhesion5. ENGO Patches need to apply to the shoe to stop blisters

• ENGO Patches can not help pressure-related pain
It’s unreasonable to expect ENGO to do anything about pressure (friction is a parallel force, pressure is a perpendicular force). Thankfully though, they won’t increase pressure because they’re only 0.38 of a millimetre thick.

HAVE LIMITATIONS?
• They need a dry surface to adhere to
Like most things that stick, the surface must be dry for initial adhesion. After that, the adhesive won’t be adversely affected by the moisture of perspiration (or even light wetting eg: rain, body run-off). No matter how hot, active and sweaty your feet get, the patches will stay stuck! Moisture doesn’t soak through the patch.

• The Patches may come unstuckif the shoe gets waterlogged:
• Putting them in the washing machine • Wading through deep puddles, swamps and river-crossings

• Waterproofing can compromise adhesion
Sometimes, patches just don't stick very well, right from the start. It’s rare and when it occurs, it tends to affect:
• hiking boots (but not all hiking boots have the problem)• almost always new boots• the inner lining of the shoe (around the back of the heel)

• ENGO Patches need to applyto the shoe to stop blisters.
And so they can’t stop blisters between the toes –because there is no shoe surface to apply them to (except Vibrams of course). We do have customers that stick them to toe-socks, but they won’t last the washing machine cycle.

ENGO was invented and is manufactured in Minnesota USA by Marty Carlson at Tamarack Habilitation Technologies Inc. It was originally (and still is) used to prevent skin breakdown (ulcers) on amputation stumps where prosthetic legs are used.

My team at Blister Prevention is responsible for providing ENGO in Australia and New Zealand and to people in all other parts of the world.

I found out about ENGO on Podiatry Arena in 2009 – I’m blister prone and I needed to get on top of my own blister problem! When I first started using ENGO Patches, I had to send to the US to get them. Delivery took up to 4 weeks.
