EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT
INCREASE IDEAS TO
1.. EMPLOYEE APPRECIATION DAY
This day officially comes round once a year but why not celebrate it many times throughout the year. Employees like to feel their organization appreciates their hard work and long hours. When employees meet a deadline or complete a project managers should support and reward their employees with gifts of gratitude or acts of kindness to show their appreciation. A simple ‘thank-you’ or ‘good job’ can have more impact than you think.
2.. PERSONAL PROJECTS
Allow a specific time frame for employees to pursue their own projects during the week. This encourages them to become involved in a personal interest generating creativity, ideas and energy. When projects are complete, sharing them is a good idea. Different departments are often interested in what other teams are doing. These projects allow time for teams to share their personal work.
3.. REFRESHMENT STATION
Hungry employees are never productive employees. Provide snacks and drinks such as fruit, cereal bars, cookies, tea, coffee and water to keep employees nourished and happy . Place these stations at different locations on each floor a short distance from work desks and computers. This should encourage employees to go, take a break and chat with colleagues. They might not need encouragement when food is brought to the office.
4.. Celebrate Milestones Individual milestones like birthdays, anniversaries, promotions and the arrival of a new employee are special events. An organization that recognises personal milestones shows they care about employees as people and not simply as one of many workers. A gift card with a hand written card from all of the team is a good way to recognise an employee’s birthday.
5.. Social Media Discussion Forums
Employees can use social technology platforms to communicate quickly and instantly with one another. Employees become more engaged when they have the opportunity to chat, ask questions and seek guidance from in an informal manner. This relaxed forum is the perfect platform for brainstorming and generating ideas.
6.. A Recommendation on LinkedIn
Public recognition is an effective way to engage and reward employees. When an employee has proving themselves over time and performs to a high level this form of recognition will drive engagement .It highlights the possibility of career progression and value of the employee to the team. A recommendation demonstrates to the employee’s entire professional network the good job they are doing at their organization.
7.. Sports and Social Activities
Encouraging employees to integrate their interests and hobbies into the organization’s culture is a great way to encourage individualism and team building. Tennis and football tournaments help build a healthy, competitive spirt increasing employee morale and sense of fun. If employees are musical joining the company choir to sing at charity and social events makes employees feel good about themselves and about their colleagues.
8. Buddy and Mentors for New Hires
New employees will perform well when they feel they are a part of the team. As an organization you want to ensure they are engaged from their first day. Having a ‘buddy’ or ‘mentor’ to introduce them, show them around the office and answer questions will instantly help with their introduction to the role. Ensuring a new hire has a positive first experience will be an influential factor in their level of engagement over time.
