Plot Synopsis – ‘Overdose’ (Contemporary Drama)

• Amber knows that her boyfriend is a successful

small-time drug dealer, but with her own career

failing to provide she is forced to stay with him and

turn a blind eye to his activities.

• As her personal life becomes increasingly embroiled

in his dangerous operations, and menaced by the

growing fear of being caught with him, she can no

longer distance herself from the criminal lifestyle

and must search for an escape.

Narrative•Focuses on the psychological effects of Amber’s

relationship with her criminal boyfriend – majority of the film is from her POV.

•First shot – Amber’s face with blue flashing light [Ambiguous]

•Second scene – Amber and her boyfriend in the car. She thinks she’s being taken to her friend/parents’ house. Boyfriend taking her to a drug deal.

•Scenes following cut back in time to events before the car journey giving context on their life, relationship, occupation etc.

Example scenes• 1 - Amber and boyfriend meeting for the first time in a club• 2 - Amber being used by boyfriend as a courier as part of his

operations• 3 - Scene between Amber and boyfriend showing his neglect

and psychological abuse of her as she confronts him about growing disregard for trying to hide his criminal activities

•Amber packed ready to stay at parents’ house.

•Return to the first scene in the car – arrive at rural, countryside meeting location.

•Plot twist – film ends with the first shot we see.
