Christmas Newspaper
Allocation
With the Festive season fast approaching, our newspaper allocation
team are well advanced in their planning and preparation of newspaper allocations over the period. As a key part of the allocation process, sales trends from last/previous years have been analysed and agreed with
publishers. Important: Please note that newspaper allocations for the Christmas holiday period will be based on sales trends of last year. Your normal supplies are likely to change unless you confirm your order requirements. Please ensure you amend your order if you have an firm/HND quantity, even if your order looks correct on salespoint.
This will ensure you receive your required amount when sales trends dictate levels of supply. Areas of consideration:
Key dates for significant sales movement between Sat 17th Dec and Mon 2nd Jan.
Year on year sales patterns changes affecting Christmas Eve, Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day being
considered and factored in to allocation rules. Loss of Independent and Independent on Sunday to be
considered for quality market titles. Consumer travel plans will change – expect petrol
forecourts to be busy from 21st-24th Dec and again from 27th-31st Dec, with a further peak on 2nd Jan.
Football fixture list includes matches on all days from
Christmas to the 3rd Jan (apart from the 29th December). New Year’s Day falling on a Sunday will disrupt sales
movements. We are expecting a heavier distribution weekend on Sat 17th and Sun 18th December as newspaper publishers include supplement ‘double Xmas TV listings issues’, which is likely to result in increased volume size of bundles of supplements being delivered to
stores on those days.

Please note we have been advised by some newspaper Publishers that if you do close but fail to inform us and subsequently send returns back you may be invoiced for the newspaper supplies delivered for the day in question.

Important Christmas and New Year publishing arrangements The Sunday Sport will not be published on the two Sundays of the 25th of December and the 1st of January 2017. The two Weekend Sport titles (on sale the 23rd and 30th of
December) will be published as 64 page `Christmas Sport’ and `New Year Sport’ special editions, each crammed full of glamour, showbiz, news and loads of puzzles and laughs. The cover price will be increased to £1:00 on these two specials only (reverting back to 90p on the 6th Jan) and terms will increase pro rata. Both titles will have an extended on sale
period of 5 days. Detailed below are the publication dates (with cover prices) for easier reference, as well as barcode details for the two specials. Publication and on sale dates schedule:
