QUESTION 4&5Who would be the audience for your media product? And how did you attract/address your audience?

TARGET AUDIENCE

•My target audience for my media construction is the female gender of young adults (16-25). I did address them and their opinions of their preferred style of the design of my magazine. I used my focus group continuously through the construction of my magazine, and took the feedback I got given each time into the development of my product.

MY REASONING • At first I decided to aim my magazine to both genders,

however throughout the development stage of construction with my production, through re search I came to the conclusion that there was not a music magazine targeted to only females on the market at this present time. As NME and Q are supposedly targeted to both they not only use harsh, bold colours they are most read by males. I felt that this was a great opportunity to develop and unique magazine. I incorporated feminine colours such as pinks and purples as well as a fashion and life style column which from feedback from my focus group I found that females are very interested in.

EXAMPLE

Use of harsh colours-RED, BLACK, YELLOWAppeal to males

Male- Rock music- Uses and Grats toward

Males

Use of pink and gentle Colours (feminine)

Bold picture- woman- Uses and GratRelationship- goes against male gaze

TA CLASS• I addressed my magazine to both the lower and upper classes. I

approached this by making the price of the magazine £2.50 which is a reasonable price which will appeal to the lower class and student such as myself. In addition to this my magazine also appeals to the high classes with a 'Urban style' as it is a modern, up to date and unique magazine. Also the design of my magazine is not messy or to 'in your face' it has a clear, fashionable name with minimalistic colours.

Range of Urban magazines that accomplish the ‘clean’, ‘simple’ layout with minimalistic colours, These magazines TA are of teens to young adults.

THE NICHE MARKET

My magazine will be grouped into the niche market due to it being an 'Urban' genre and being a female music targeted magazine. I reached this conclusion also by the design as it will most likely not appeal to everyone due to its simplicity of design and small artists which not everyone will of heard of, unlike in a magazine such as NME where bands such as 'The Kook's and 'Artic monkeys' are presented where a large audience will know.

CODES AND CONVENTIONS

From re search and analysis into many music magazines I gained knowledge into the common codes and conventions used in main magazines. The ones I used in my magazines was as follows; clear layout [no overlapping], bold masthead and an image to cover the whole page [front cover].The front cover image I made eye catching to catch the audiences attention, followed by the masthead being in a bold font and colour, finally I used a clear layout throughout the magazine to attract my target audience of young adults.

MISE EN SCENEOnto the topic of mise en scene, I clothed my models in both casual and smart clothing. This goes both for and against Mulveys theory which I explained in question 3, I allowed in some areas of the magazine such as the contents page for my models to wear what they came in because I felt this was how I was going to meet my aim of capturing the models in what young adults wear, and because all my models were in the age group I met my aim. Finally I also included Direct Mode of Address, to create a personal relationship between the model and audience which incorporates Uses and Grat. •

MODELS WEARING:• LEATHER JACKET• CASUAL TOPS• SMART JACKET• PARKA COATSAll of these items of Clothing are in trend In this particular timeWithin the teen/youngAdult market. Highlighting The urban genre.

AUDIENCE RESPONSE

From my target audience being aged between 16-25, all the elements of my magazine were chosen to suit this age group. I felt an Urban genre was the most appealing to the audience, as being in the age group myself this is the most popular genre at this present time. From the casual clothing to simple layout these all appeal to teens/ young adults. This creates a personal relationship [uses and grats] between the magazine and audience, which would entice the audience to buy the magazine.
