Take care of your collection with jewelry storage
solutions
A woman's jewelry collection is often one her most prized possessions. Each
piece reflects her style and personality, while some pieces may even hold
special memories. When it comes to buying jewelry, from baubles to
expensive pieces; a woman chooses her jewelry with care. Yet once the
purchase is made and the jewelry has been worn, the pieces end up in a box
in a drawer somewhere only to be thought of now and again.
A jewelry collection needs to be stored and taken care of to maximize its life
span and keep it safe from accidental damage. Jewelry storage solutions play
a huge role in protecting jewelry. Other things that ensure that your jewelry
remains as good as new are how you wear them and frequent cleaning.
Here are a few tips and tricks to maintain your jewelry collection and to keep
it looking as good as new for years.
● Wear jewelry after you have applied make up. Many chemicals in body
lotions, make up and perfumes can damage your jewelry.
● Remove your jewelry before you enter the shower, play contact sports,
clean the house or garden. The chemicals and contact with abrasive
surfaces during these activities can cause long term damage to your
jewelry.
● Store your jewelry with care. Use a closet jewelry organizer to keep
you collection easily accessible and safe. Use velvet lined jewelry boxes
for the more precious pieces. Make sure that pieces made of precious
metals don't touch each other and cause accidental scratching.
● Use anti-tarnish strips inside your jewelry storage solutions to keep
your silver jewelry safe from oxidants that lead to discoloration and
tarnishing.
● Clean your jewelry often. It ideal to use warm water and special jewelry
cleaning solutions and cloths to keep your jewelry looking spic and
span. Make sure that you do not clean any damaged jewelry as the
cleaning process could worsen the problem.
● Inspect your collection thoroughly every few months so that you can
find broken or damaged pieces and get them repaired as soon as
possible. This will go a long way towards keeping your collection
looking as good as new.
● Repair broken or damaged pieces at a jeweler of good repute. Choose a
jeweler whose reputation can be verified by friends or family.
Remember that not all pieces are worth repairing. Sometimes,
repairing a piece can cost more than the piece itself, in which case it is
probably better to simply let go.
