Muskrats are rodents with brown fur and a long tail. Muskrats have sharp claws on there front feet. Muskrats have webbed back feet to help them swim.

Muskrats live in wetlands in North America. Some muskrats build Dens others build Lodges. They sleep in there Dens or Lodges in the day.

Muskrats eat cattail, bulrushes, and the root of water plants. They sometimes eat clams, crayfish, and snails. They are prey of minks, raccoons, coyotes, owls, hawks, and alligators.

Muskrats mate in the warm months. It takes 30 days for a female muskrat to give birth it is usually is 5 to 6 kits per litter. Kits usually only stay with their mom for 1 month.

Rumor has it muskrats are said to be very tasty. There dens usually have underground tunnels. Muskrats float on rafts when they eat.
