Fashion Forecasting Autumn/Winter 2014-2015: Next winter will be a poetic juxtaposition of the past and the future; classic forms and shapes from the 19th century, the 1930's and 1960's get in perfect balance with new technologies, advanced materials and elegant experimentation. Silhouettes become comfortable with body-hugging pieces, ideal for the contemporary busy way of life. The color palette starts from warm base colors to jewel tones and sensual reds, while prints get inspired by nature or geometry. Here we are again presenting the overviews of what we saw during the fashion weeks of the coming fall/winter season. This time, fashion trends in general are at our concentration. Here we are going to make a list of the fall/ winter 2014-2015 fashion trends for your consideration and inspiration. As it generally can be described, the fall season comes as the conglomeration of the comebacks of some retro and classic shapes and designs, put with some brighter color tones

Fashion Forecasting Trend:Concise assortments of themes are presented in women’s wear for FW 14/15. The most prevalent is Tomboy – a continuation of androgynous looks. Retro remains influential with Film Noir heroines in 50s. Collections continue to feature an abundance of sportswear, but this season Cubist influence brings in linear graphic motifs. With Baroque inspiration still fresh in mind, an opulent regal theme filled with luxe materials and jewel tones is popular. Folk nods to the free-spirited Bohemia, while Sleepwalkers promotes pajama dressing.

50’s:The 50s remains an influential decade, recognizable by ladylike fit and flare silhouettes. Prada is a key reference, as well as Rochas, Unique, Antonio Marras and Ports 1961. While full skirts, skirt suits and boxy jackets are common, British labels Jonathan Saunders and Roksanda Illincic add newness to the trend by applying futuristic applications of PVC, making the retro reference more modern and slightly futuristic. Pastel hues also lighten the mood. Menswear material favorites like tweed and wool felt are utilized, and belted silhouettes are a common accent.

Cubist:Cubist follows Fashion Snoops’ Ultramodern trend from last season and also confirms our Formula = Solution Visionary forecast. Key designers include Helmut Lang, Narciso Rodriguez, Issey Miyake and David Koma. The theme combines two primary elements, minimalist sportswear with a futurist edge. A monochromatic color palette carries forward and stripes and lines are a key pattern focus, including fractured geometrics and optical illusions.

Sleepwalkers:One of the newest ideas to emerge for fall / winter 14/15 is the notion of pajama influence. Marc Jacobs first featured the theme, which was replicated on the runways of Missoni, Rochas and Max Mara. Pajama pants, tops and robes are essential pieces, set to fluid satin and silk charmeuse. Whimsical patterns like ditsy floral add to the boudoir sentiment.

80’s:Parisian labels like Balmain and Emanuel Ungaro dip back into the opulent 80s for fall / winter 14/15. Broad statement shoulders signal the most defiant silhouette direction, while high waist carrot shapes make a comeback on pants. Metallic’s and embellishment speak to the decade’s excess and dots and optical geometrics drive the pattern conversation.

Folk:Folk provides a younger approach to Bohemia in women swear. The influence is most celebrated at Matthew Williamson, Mara Hoffman, Suno and Valentino. A rich assortment of print and pattern options includes tapestry and patchwork motifs. While silhouettes can be ultimately modern, items like the dirndl skirt have a prairie feel.

Geometric Pattern:Geometric patterns are the most immediate ways of creating real pieces of art for the designers. So well, that’s exactly what they are trying to do every time, introducing alternatives of geometric patterns one being even more eye-catching and admirable than the other. Polka dots, diamonds, checkered patterns and stripes are some of the most popular and actually never-fading alternatives that most of the designers happen to go for. Thus, talking with examples, we can note the alternatives by Emma Cook, Tod’s, Prada, and Chanel. The dotted patterns presented by Valentino and the heart shaped figures we found in the RED Valentino collection are also worth mentioning.

Color Blocking:Color blocking is one of the most popular and extremely creative design patterns that the designers use. The advantage of these prints underlies in the fact that they give the designers the opportunity to create some pleasant color plays and contrasts and to come up with innovative and stylish interpretations all the time. This is a versatile alternative for them always having the chance to be modified and renovated according to the fashion trends. It’s not in vain that such directions as Cubism are mainly based on these forms. Thus, talking about the examples of the color blocks we can note the collections of Christian Siriano coming up with the traditional black and white interpretations, Carolina Herrera with the white, red, and blue plays, Talbot Runhof with the muted shades of red and purple and Veronique Leroy with the specific plays of golden and brown tones.

Checkered Pattern:Checks are again a form of geometric patterns, which have already become a separate type of print, not identified with just geometric. The first associations, of course, go towards the Scottish tartan and that’s actually how the original print is called. For the Scottish culture tartan is one of the most inextricable aspects of their culture. Thus, the most noteworthy shades of the checks that we noted during the shows are red and black alternatives both being equally effective and chic. Marc by Marc Jacobs, Missoni, Phillip Plein, Vivienne Westwood, Simone Rocha and Polo Ralph Lauren suggest some of the most noteworthy and cool alternatives of the red and laconic checkered patterns, at the same time perfectly accentuated with the red shade. As for the black variants, we can first of all note the one suggested by Marissa Webb and Comme Des Garons offering some combinations of checkered skirts and jackets. Roland Mouret came up with cool dresses having these patterns, which are ideal for complementing business looks. As for the option suggested by Steven Alan, the intense black shade is smoothened with the help of gray tones and the results come as an array of comfy jumpsuits for everyday wear.

Fauna Prints:Coming to ornamental prints and patterns, there is an array of subdivisions that we may talk about in particular. One of them is the print of leaves and ornamental floral found with quite big proportions on the pieces of many fashion houses. For instance, the alternatives suggested by Mother of Pearl and Tory Burch are some of the most romantic options. Osman and Aganovich showed the ideal forms of coats adorned with this type of print. The garments by Christophe Lemaire can also nicely complete the everyday wardrobe of yours and even the one meant for your working looks if the dress code is not strict at your workplace. House of Holland, MSGM, Betsey Johnson, Paul Smith, and Undercover also come up with their options, spiced up with bright and catchy shades.

Ethinic Prints:Ethnic patterns are the following most frequently met and modernized patterns we ever come across when looking through collections. This year they also have their unique place in the array of prints and patterns and they compose an essential part of the looks presented by Stella Jean, Mara Hoffman, Mary Katrantzou, Emma Cook, Talbot Runhof, Lindsey Thornburg, Veronique Braquinho, and Temperley London.

Animal Prints:Going on with the trends that never fade away, we can’t miss out the animal prints! Fashion houses like Balmain, Wren, Givenchy, Celine, Dsquared2 and Tom Ford used the classic leopard prints for the key looks of their collections. Still, as we often note when speaking about animal prints, such looks tend to be aggressive at times, too. Thus they are suitable for the ladies, who are really confident and bold enough to sport such looks. The minimalistic forms are the best ways of expressing the whole charm of these prints. On the other hand, the variants suggested by Acne Studios, Giambattista Valli, Gucci, Vanessa Bruno and Zuhair Murad focus more on the wilder feline prints rather than on the classic forms, absolutely copying their natural coloring. Valentino’s and Dolce & Gabbana’s romantic butterfly, bird, fox and owl prints are also very charming!

Fashion Forecasting Fabric:Fabrics such as Wovens, woolens, yarns, toile, silks, sheers, fibers, filaments, damask, and knits. Ushering in rich velvet, colorful furs, suede, leather and opulent brocades, from Modern Empress to vibrant Oriental Floral, traditional, custom, and cultural tales from around the world emerge in lavish upholstery, elegant swirls and Tropicana foliage for this cooler season. Inspiring compositions with folkloric appeal; needlework, hand-beaded collages, regal imprints, village scenery, mythic characters, seascapes, high gloss fabric contrast with decorative motifs; from the Balkans to South America, the evolution of mixing media to the extreme will persist.

Fashion Forecasting Silhouette: The cropped swing-back fur coat is an important silhouette for next winter and fits nicely into

both of our retro-inspired trends. It looks modern when worked in sheared and flat fur handles and collar proportion is keys.

The rounded wide neck DB coat is all-important for next season but it’s about getting the collar right – It should sit high on the neck and fasten at the bust line finishing above the waist. Works best in cozy comfy fur types.

| The edge-to-edge cropped jacket is vintage-inspired but looks ultra modern with a slightly shaped sleeve, tapered below the elbow. Play with fur/fabric combinations or work into flat furs to get the sleeve shape right.

The menswear-inspired topcoat with contrasting lapel is an important silhouette for next winter. With exaggerated proportions being keys, make sure it is oversized and work into fun fur mixes in off-beat color combinations.

The bomber jacket was a strong trend at the RTW shows and will continue on as a biker/bomber hybrid. It updates the beloved moto jacket so looks best when worked in a fur/leather combination for a hard meets soft edge.

The all-enveloping ¾ full fur coat sits well in all three of our trends for next winter, looking more retro when belted or having a protective masculine feel when not. Introduce a drop sleeve or a kimono cut sleeve for a more directional look.
