Connector Events
See the Big Picture
IANS Connector Events bring together small groups of
senior-level information security professionals from a
broad spectrum of industries and experiences for
facilitated deep-dive discussions of important challenges
and solutions in the information security space.
Your community is a resource: through intimate peer-to-
peer conversations around common issues, solutions, and
suggestions for improvement, you’ll gain insight into
varying perspectives and develop new ideas to accelerate
your problem-solving efforts.
Is your organization structured for
success?
The position of the CISO in the corporate hierarchy has a
huge impact on their success in embedding security into
the strategic and operational fabric of the organization.
IANS’s research has found that CISOs who report to a
strategic function of their company, such as the CEO or
the Legal department, perform at a much higher level
than those who report into Technology. If you are limited
by your organization’s reporting structure, what can you
do to improve the circumstance?
At a recent event, we posed the question:
“There is no CISO role, it is enacted by the Dir IT, who reports to the CTO.”
“All IT functions, including information security, are centralized for the company.”
Attendees discussed the challenges …
“…the CISO is a non-formal role at this point, I report to the VP of Business Services (de-facto CIO)”
… and through that discussion, shared thoughts on how to address the problem.
• Establish independence with a dotted line and
direct communication to the Board.
• Plan for resiliency. You might have a collegial
relationship with your CIO, but if he leaves, will you
still be able to do good work?
• Try to shift the technical & operational needs of
security, like patch management, to IT operations
and free up information security to focus on more
strategic elements.
At a Connector Event, you will: • Gain insight into the challenges and roadblocks
you and your peers share.
• Learn about new and unique approaches to common issues and topics
• Take away problem-solving ideas that you can apply in your own organization.
