Connector Events
See the Big Picture
IANS Connector Events bring together small groups of
senior-level information security professionals from a
broad spectrum of industries and experiences for
facilitated deep-dive discussions of important challenges
and solutions in the information security space.
Your community is a resource: through intimate peer-to-
peer conversations around common issues, solutions, and
suggestions for improvement, you’ll gain insight into
varying perspectives and develop new ideas to accelerate
your problem-solving efforts.
Does your information security team
have a multifaceted skill set?
The most effective security teams are those that have a
mix of technical, business, and interpersonal skills. 83%
of CISOs who have completed the CISO Impact
Diagnostic are still struggling to stock their team with
direct reports that possess business acumen, technical
abilities, and interpersonal skills. What are the
roadblocks to hiring a balanced team, and how can you
surmount them?
At a recent event, we posed the question:
“No formal or dotted lines exist in a direct management model for either project or performance management.”
“Competency matrix not approved by IT Governance. Security Manager Operations recommended structure, but not adopted. PWC brought in, but did not know what recommendations were proposed as Security manager Operations left the organization.”
Attendees discussed the challenges …
“There are no plans at this point for additional head count as we have just started defining the strategic direction for establishing an information security program.”
… and through that discussion, shared thoughts on how to address the problem.
• Work with HR to define competency models that
point directly at the technical, business, and
interpersonal skills you need on your team
• Apply the models to existing staff to build
development plans and to filter new hires
• Find a way to develop yourself and your team as
managers and leaders - including resources outside
formal classroom training, like IANS events.
At a Connector Event, you will: • Gain insight into the challenges and roadblocks
you and your peers share.
• Learn about new and unique approaches to common issues and topics
• Take away problem-solving ideas that you can apply in your own organization.
