Connector Events
See the Big Picture
IANS Connector Events bring together small groups of
senior-level information security professionals from a
broad spectrum of industries and experiences for
facilitated deep-dive discussions of important challenges
and solutions in the information security space.
Your community is a resource: through intimate peer-to-
peer conversations around common issues, solutions, and
suggestions for improvement, you’ll gain insight into
varying perspectives and develop new ideas to accelerate
your problem-solving efforts.
Do you have the skills to run information security like a business?
Success as a CISO isn’t just about technical skills – you
also need expertise in areas that will enable you to
work in step with the goals of the business. For
example: IANS’ research shows that only 23% of CISOs
who have completed the Diagnostic report having a
financial resource to track and spend budget. How can
you develop your expertise in practical areas like
financial and resource management?
At a recent event, we posed the question:
“Currently, there is only one other person staffed to address information security besides myself. There are no plans at this point for additional head count as we have just started defining the strategic direction for establishing an information security program.”
“Some personnel are in MBA courses, and others are in Mgmt 101 courses, but this is not fully integrated across the team.”
Attendees discussed the challenges …
“Problems may lie in the increasing support demands for new security tools (and this increased staffing is not currently in the budget).”
… and through that discussion, shared thoughts on how to address the problem.
• Tie requests for budget to business impact – show
business leaders that you understand their goals.
• Strengthen resource management skills to maximize
the impact of the tools at your disposal.
• Make use of corporate project management resources
to organize and deliver security projects on time and
on budget.
At a Connector Event, you will: • Gain insight into the challenges and roadblocks
you and your peers share.
• Learn about new and unique approaches to common issues and topics
• Take away problem-solving ideas that you can apply in your own organization.
