Customer Smart Account is where smart enabled products are deposited. It serves are the repository of smart enabled products. Both customers and partners will need to create a customer smart account for their own licenses, but partners may also have the additional role of helping manage their customer smart account

Holding Smart Account is used by partners to manage orders temporarily before there are provisioned to end customer Smart Accounts. When ordering, partners may not know the Customer Smart Account, and instead can store the order in the Holding Account. Once Customer is identified, then they will transfer order to customer smart account. Licenses can only be activated in the Customer Smart Account, not Holding Account.

Virtual Accounts are subsets of a smart account either Customer or Holding and is used to internally organize licenses by department or logical entities. You can use Virtual accounts to organize licenses by business unit, product type, geographic region or whatever makes sense for your organization.Note: Smart accounts are not captured on CSCC orders, as no services are currently smart account enabled. Smart account enabled products have new SKUs but are familiar, as-is products. Note: Smart account enabled products are not currently available on the wholesale price list. Therefore, distributors cannot place stocking orders, but they can place drop-ship orders.

Dividing your Smart Accounts with Virtual Accounts Biology DeptMathematics Dept Physics Dept

If you use the license management functionality in Cisco Smart Software Manager (CSSM), you can create virtual accounts that reflect your organizations departments then associate licenses and devices with those departments.

This is an example of breaking a smart account into virtual accounts. Virtual account for Customer Smart Accounts are managed in another tool called Cisco Smart Software Manager (CSSM) which is where the new license management and activation occurs we wont be diving in to that aspect today.

In this example, big.U.Edu create 3 virtual accounts that represent their Physics, Math and Biology dept, so they have visibility into the licenses they have in each and can move licenses between accounts if desired.

Partner Visibility

Cisco Confidential# 2014 Cisco and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved. This slide walks through the holding account role in more detail

When a partner purchases the smart account enabled products a customer does NOT have to be identified at the time of purchase

Partner may put the smart account enabled products into their own holding account or put in their resellers holding accountsmart enabled products will sit until its transferred to the appropriate customer

into a holding account, the holding account owner will be notified by email that this item must be moved and assigned to a customer smart account in order for the item to be activated and usedLicenses cant be consumed in holding accounts

Once assigned to Customer Smart Account, customers/partners can manage in CSSM if they choose.

Transforming How You Think About Cisco

Cisco Confidential# 2014 Cisco and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved.Smart Software Licensing diverges from how customers have managed Cisco software. The change is so radical that when we began user acceptance in the Smart Software Manager Portal our testers had a hard time conceptually understanding some key differences between managing licenses today and managing licenses tomorrow with Smart Software Licensing. This slide lays the basis for conceptual differences between todays and tomorrows licensing models.

However, it must be noted that Smart Software Licensing is NOT an enforcement system but rather it is a reporting mechanism.

In the new world, PAK registration is no longer necessary for unlocking and using software. When a customer purchases software and logs into the Smart Software Manager with their Enterprise Account key, the purchased software is ready for use. Licenses are not attached to a single device. Customers can pool licenses and apply them to compatible devices in any department or entity belonging to the company. Cisco does not require that one license be associated with a specific machine. Two big issues that inhibit Cisco from helping the partner is that no one really has a comprehensive view of what the customer owns, nor is there a view of what the customer is using or not using across the company. Cisco, the Partner (if appropriate) and the customer will have access to the same complete company view of the customers install base. Customers can manage their license and device usage from this install base view.

As part of ensuring that licensing simplicity happens across all Cisco products, we are including a new licensing simplicity requirement for our tollgate product introduction process.
