St. Mary’s Campus Phoenix Park Dublin 20 Free Online EducaAon Programme Fiona Dunne ADON Bindumol Thomas CNSp Josna Celi Staff Nurse Wemi Chukwureh Physiotherapist Anne Spencer Ed Technologist Background ISHCA is a new iniEaEve set up in St. Mary’s Campus by interdisciplinary staff who recognise that the promoEon of conEnence in the older adult can have a huge impact on their quality of life. It is imperaEve that older persons with issues with conEnence are given every opportunity to regain full conEnence and at the very least have inconEnence managed in a way that promotes the dignity of the person. Research has highlighted the need for increased educaEon in all areas relaEng to the effecEve management of inconEnence. The ISHCA educaEon programme was developed to meet that need. Aims •To provide an easy to navigate elearning resource which facilitates healthcare staff to learn at their own pace at a Eme convenient to them, thus accommodaEng different types of learning styles and abiliEes. •To equip staff with expert knowledge on key aspects of conEnence promoEon in the older adult. •To create a new culture of conEnence care that will support pracEEoners across all seRngs to acEvely promote conEnence. Content 1. IntroducEon 2. Anatomy & Physiology – Kidney, Bladder & Pelvic Floor 3. Types of InconEnence 4. Undertaking a ConEnence Assessment (ConEnence Care Pathway) 5. PromoEng ConEnence 6. SelecEng Appropriate ConEnence Wear ObjecAves •To Increase awareness among all staff groups regarding urinary inconEnence , management plan and proper documentaEon •To see an improved approach in the management of older adults with conEnence issues within the campus and enhance quality of life of older persons •To promote a personcentred approach to conEnence management leading to individualised assessments being carried out on all paEents and residents. •To see a reducEon in the use of inconEnence containment products and appropriate use of products following accurate assessments. EvaluaAon Results: To date the website has received over 1000 hits in the first 2 weeks and over 400 have accessed the ISHCA online educaEonal programme. Visitors to the website are from Ireland, Europe UK, ArgenEna, India and Turkey. Some of the feedback to date: “I am a Director of Nursing and this is the type of learning that I wish was available to my staff across the board on all aspects of care. I will ask all nurses and care staff to complete this very valuable elearning training.
