Occupational health hazard is defined as:
A danger or hazard to workers that is inherent in a particular occupation
Any condition of a job that can result in illness or injury endangerment, hazard, jeopardy, peril, risk - a source of danger; a possibility of incurring loss or misfortune.

Community Health Science department is associated
with teaching as well as research work.
Majority of work here is office work.
Office timing is from 9am to 5 pm and employees are continuously being subjected to various occupational hazards during their stay at the premises.
BACKGROUND

These hazards range from the normal day to
day routine work, sitting long hours in front of computers and the anxiety created from completion of assignments at designated dead lines
We did survey of 6 office workers in the department and found that they are at risk of some serious non communicable diseases which can be avoided.

We used survey method to collect data.
Data was collected with the help of self reported questionnaire.
Total six office workers were included in this survey.
The sampling method was convenient
The data was collected from 6 office workers at CHS
METHODS

The following questions were asked:
1. How long have you worked in this area?
2. What health problems do you think you are at risk for?
3. What are the health hazards you are currently facing?
4.What are the preventive/curative measures that can be taken for the above mentioned problems

The age of sample we collected ranged from
25 to 46 years
Two out of 6 were from northern areas and rest were from Karachi
The working experience in AKU ranged from 1 to 22 years
FINDINGS

The respondent said that they are at risk of
depression, neck pain, heart diseases, wrist pain and electric shock.
33% had high blood pressure
33% had depression

All the respondents knew the preventive
measures like jogging, exercise, outing, diet control.
Non of them were practicing them.
All the respondent replied that administration is doing nothing to prevent them from occupational hazards.

Majority of people working in CHS are at risk
of Depression and Cardio vascular diseases.
They know the preventive measures but due to work load they are not able to perform any
CONCLUSION

CHS administration needs to consider this
issue and work load needs to be decreased
Health screening of employees on annual basis
