PreventoriumObjective

Beginning the “Preventorium” in Perú with the proposal to set a connection within the asymptomatic people with the health public system.

Methodology IThis pilot project has been implemented in Callao (Mean Seaport of Lima, 2005) promoting healthier lifestyles on poverty population, throughout:

�Health education and counselling�Identifying risk factors of cancer and chronicaldiseases.

�Applying screening tests for early cancer detection (gyn,breast, etc.)

�Diagnosis of chronical diseases�Campaigns in the facilities

preventorium.

Since the beginning of program , all the events have been recorded giving a invaluable information, and its fundamental part for our cancer control plan.

ResultsSince April 2005, a total of 2272 people were

attended:

80.33% female.

The majority age group was between 45 to 64 years old .

63% of obesity and overweight were observed in females and 64% in males.

A smoking population of

17.86% in females and

35.12% in males.

Results–1336 PAP tests samples : 1.05% being positive.

- A total of 1037 mammographies were required,

Only carried out 25.55%,

Results:

BI RADS 4 1.51%

BI RADS 5. 1.13%

The positive Thevenon test results:

- 5.7 % females

-17.7 % males.

Massive Media Comunication Program

ConclusionIt has been demonstrated that the “Preventorium” is a community well accepted program:

- It depends of the coherent, consistent and constant diffusion by massive media.

- Cheaper costs increase participation of the people.

- The health campaigns by itinerants team increase the participation of people to this service.

“Preventorium” program is part of the

Cancer Control National Plan, promoted by

INEN and Coalition and approved by

Health Minister.

At the first trimester 2008, a national

guide for implementation and monitoring

results will be available.

This program has been accepted by the

the authorities like a part of local health

plans
