The causes of violence are multi-faceted; multi-national programs are currently working to address many of them. There is still a need address judicial effectiveness. This is where our solution will intervene to reduce violence in Honduras.

Only 1% of violent crimes result in a conviction.1

The people of Honduras distrust their justice system.

This facilitates self-executed justice and violence.

The majority of homicides (70+%) are non-gang related.2

This illustrates a culture of violence.

Exposure to violence leads to poor mental health outcomes and impaired physical & cognitive development.3

Interpersonal violence is the third leading cause of death in Honduras.4

A Culture of Violence Permeates Throughout Honduras

Honduran distrust in the judicial system facilitates self-executed violent justice. This culture of violence causes poor mental health outcomes and impaired physical and cognitive development.

Quality Improvement and Effectiveness: Judicial System

Gun Related Violent Act

Quality Improvement specialist will work with enforcement officers to identify and address quality improvement areas.

Quality Improvement expert will work with prosecution to identify and address quality improvement areas.

The number of trials, and convictions will serve as a measurement indicator.

Deterrence effect of a functioning judicial system will decrease crime.

Based on deterrence theory, certainty of punishment is an effective deterrent to crime. The goal of the quality improvement process is to create an effective system that will make criminals aware that they will be punished for their crimes.
