OraCare is not just any mouthwash.
OraCare is an Activated Oral Cleanser and Health Rinse.
Chlorine dioxide is used primarily (>95%) for the bleaching
of wood pulp, but is also used for the bleaching of flour and for the
disinfection of municipal drinking water.
It can also be used for air disinfection and was the principal agent
used in the decontamination of buildings in the United States after the
2001 anthrax attacks.
After the disaster of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, Louisiana and
the surrounding Gulf Coast, chlorine dioxide has been used to
eradicate dangerous mold from houses inundated by the flood-water.
What has Activated Chlorine Dioxide been used for?
123
Bacteria: from bad breath to tooth decay to periodontal disease, bacteria are the main causes of most
oral problems and diseases.
Viruses: thought to have a role in periodontal disease, can cause Oral Cancer (HPV), oral herpes,
and oral warts.
Fungi: cause of Candida Infections; very common in denture patients.
Fungi can be a factor in Periodontal disease.
Bacterial Toxins/Volatile Sulfur Compounds (VSCs): When left on the tongue or in the periodontal
pocket, the anaerobic bacteria can yield the "rotten egg" smell of volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs) such
as hydrogen sulfide, methyl mercaptan, allyl methyl sulfide, and dimethyl sulfide. They also cause
disease.
Cytokine Over-Reaction, Hyper-immune response: over production of inflammatory cytokines cause
the production of Collaginase (enzymes) which breaks down gingival and alveolar collagen.
What is Activated Chlorine Dioxide?
Activated Chlorine Dioxide is unique because it has been used to kill a wide range of Bacteria, Viruses, Fungi, Bacteria Toxins (VSCs), and the biofilm layer; it also oxidizes certain inflammatory cytokines.
Biofilms have been found to be involved in a wide variety of microbial
infections in the body, by one estimate: 80% of all infections. Infectious
processes in which biofilms have been implicated include common problems
such as urinary tract infections, catheter infections, middle-ear infections,
formation of dental plaque, gingivitis and coating contact lenses as well as
less common but more lethal processes such as endocarditis, infections in
cystic fibrosis, and infections of permanent in-dwelling devices such as joint
prostheses and heart valves.
More recently it has been noted that bacterial biofilms may impair wound
healing and reduce topical antibacterial efficiency in healing or treating
infected skin wounds.
What is Biofilm?
A biofilm is an aggregate of microorganisms in which cells adhere to each other on a surface. These adherent cells are frequently embedded within a self-produced matrix of extracellular polymeric substance.

Peridex vs. OraCare
The Peridex label = adverse reactions
It can cause gingivitis and bleeding gums.
More than 2% of people tested were hypersensitive to this rinse.
Anaphylactic shock
It worsens the formation of calculus
Stains teeth and composites. Some must be replaced.
Permanent taste loss in some people
Taste Bad!!! Low patient compliance
Taste Unpleasant initial Refreshing tasteand after taste leaves mouth
“Power-washed” clean
Staining Causes hard-to remove stains No Staining, in fact on teeth, dental restorations and ClO2 is known to dentures. Can only be removed whiten teeth. by dental cleaning
Safety Product label: No harmful effect“not safe to swallow” if swallowed Severe allergic reactions incidentallyhave been noted.

As we all know, the mouth is an
exceptional environment for the growth of
Bacteria, Viruses, and Fungi, all of
which are transmissible from patient to
patient. A 60 second pre-treatment rinse
by the patient prior to dental procedures
will significantly reduce the
microbiological content of aerosols due to
Oracare’s ability to kill germs and destroy
biofilms.
We believe one of the most exciting uses of OraCare is as a Pre-Rinse:
We recommend that dentists use
OraCare before every procedure to
reduce the potential cross-contamination
of patients by aerosols.
Also the more germ free the environment,
the less chance of infections and the
spreading of localized periodontal areas
to other sites in the mouth.
Additionally, Oracare’s ability to destroy
micro organisms and Biofilm can reduce
the possibility of transmitting infectious
micro oraganisms from one intraoral site
to another (including another person).
Kills germs before we even start:
• Pre operative rinsing
• Pre operative rinsing before general
anesthesia intubation
• Post operative rinsing
• Pericoronitis
• Gingivitis
• Denture soaking and care
• Pre root plane sulcular irrigation
• Post oral surgery care
• Apthous Ulcer, Chemotherapy
oral mucositis and Lichen Planus care
OraCure has a variety of uses, including:
• Dry socket care
• Implant placement care and bone graft/
membrane
• Implant failure care
• Candida infections
• Halitosis care and sore throats
• Cosmetic treatment maintenance
• Orthodontic care hygiene
• Immediate denture care and healing
• Canker sores, oral warts and oral viral infections
• Cleaning your toothbrush
This patient had braces and had to have them removed because of poor hygiene. The patient had red painful swollen gums. She was but on OraCare and almost immediately the pain dissipated. The after picture was taken 5 weeks later

Stabilized chlorine dioxide is prepared by
buffering sodium chlorite with carbonate or
phosphate, and hydrogen peroxide. This
approach, in reality, stabilizes the chlorite not the
chlorine dioxide. The stabilized compound is not
the same as chlorine dioxide, nor does it have
the same oxidizing properties. The oxidizing
potential is much lower and the compound is far
less useful as a product in general. Chlorine
dioxide is also a gas, non ionic and quite
penetrating, while sodium chlorite is a salt, and
unlike CD, will hydrolyze in solution.
