Dengue Fever- Symptoms& Signs
• Fever
• Headache
• Severe joints and muscle pain
• Prostration
• Lymphadenopathy
• RASH………..appears with a second temperature raise after an afebrile period

• Incubation 3-15 days
• Chills, headache, eye pain on movements
• Back ache
• Aches & pains….joints, muscles, body
• Fever………..40 degree centigrade
• Pink macular rash…..face……….extremities..body
• Palpable lymph nodes

Dengue fever
• Continues for 2-4 days or more
• Profuse sweating
• Patient feels better ……..1 or 2 days ..afebrile
• Second fever …………38-39 degrees centigrade
• Maculopapular rash…extremities..whole body
• # Fever… Rash … Headache … body pain

Dengue Haemorrhagic fever
• Fever … Rash …. Headache… Pain
• Cold clammy extremities………body warm
• Pulse down
• Respiratory …….pharyngitis, cough, dyspnoea,
• GI Symptoms … nausea,vomiting & abdominal pain
• These symptoms lasts for 2-6 days and progresses into SHOCK

Dengue Shock Syndrome- DSS
• The most critical phase of DF and patient suddenly collapses or prostration
• The signs are – Cold clammy extremities…….body warm– Pulse low and even feeble – Cyanosis …..mouth– BLEEDING tendencies …
• purpura, petichae, or echymosis• Haematemesis• Malena• Epistaxis• Subarchnoid haemaorrhage• # injection site # IV………IM
