Progressive Rehabilita0on: Free Weights Exercise op0ons to avoid: • Incline Leg Press • Heavy Olympic Squats & DeadliHs • Military Press (overhead) • KeMlebell Swings • Back Hyperextensions • Forward Flexion with rota0on i.e. Minimise compression & lumbar extension based strength exercises.
Progressive Rehabilita0on Advanced Free Weights exercise prescrip0on should include elements of: • Propriocep0ve skills • Closed Kine0c Chain • Global Core -‐ combina0ons of shoulder, pelvic & trunk
stability • Improved postural awareness – ‘recalibra0ng ‘
Issues to consider with program design: • Foot drop & associated instability of affected leg • Compensatory postural changes (eg. Thoracic Kyphosis &
Forward Head posture) • Avoiding full extension of affected leg if residual nuerology
exists • Compensatory gait paMerns in walking program
Some Cardiovascular Condi0oning Op0ons: • Walking • Cycling • Light jogging where applicable • Pool walking / hydrotherapy • Modified swimming – reduce excessive lumbar extension
