Currently serves on the board of the United Hospital Fund, Public Health Solutions and the NYC Health and Hospitals Corporation and chairs the Public Health Committee of the State Public Health and Health Planning Council. She has received honorary degrees from the State University of New York- Brooklyn, New York Medical College, Pace University, and the University of Toledo. She has been a Fellow of The New York Academy of Medicine since 1988. Dr. Boufford received her BA from the University of Michigan, and her MD with distinction from the University of Michigan Medical School.

NATIONAL HOSPITAL CEO OF THE YEAR Bernie Fernandez, Jr., MD President Cleveland Clinic Florida Internist specialized in vascular medicine. He joined Cleveland Clinic Florida in 1991. Named CEO of Florida operations in June 2006 and a member of the executive team for the Cleveland Clinic Health System in 2001, after serving several years as chairman of the Division of Medicine. Elizabeth H. Swain, MA President & CEO Community Health Care Association of New York State Elizabeth has spent the past 25+ years in community health system development, working directly with federally qualiQied health centers. In 1993 she and her colleagues founded the Community Health Plan of Washington, a statewide health insurance company in Washington State. Ms. Swain received her Masters in Sociology and Political Economics from Boston University, has written extensively in the Qield and been a guest lecturer and adjunct faculty at several colleges in public health policy and community health.

FOUNDERS AWARD Belen Cestero Being honored with the Founders Award for her initial funding of the Association of Hispanic Healthcare Executives (AHHE) 15 years ago. Without her support, we would not be here tonight. During her career, she has been an entrepreneur and owned a store in Washington Heights known as Attic Antiques. As a single parent, she was known for her disciplined work ethic, working two full time jobs for many years to support herself and her son, George A. Zeppenfeldt. Now weeks away from celebrating her 90th birthday, Ms. Cestero currently remains active by serving on the Advisory Board of the Washington Heights Neighborhood Senior Center/STARR, where she runs their fundraising bazaars. Doña Belen has a great sense of humor but most of all, she is devoted to her family and demonstrates unconditional love.

Lazala, M.D. Senior Director, Clinical Services, Assistant Professor , Cardiothoracic Surgery The Mount Sinai Medical Center With over 25 years of healthcare experience, Ricardo A. Lazala, MD, leads the Cardiothoracic Surgery Clinical Services team. Creator of the Mount Sinai - Hospital General de la Plaza de la Salud (HGPS) Cardiovascular Initiative to provide cardiovascular surgery to patients in the Dominican Republic who have limited financial resources. In May 2012, Ricardo was presented the Mount Sinai Presidential Service Award, honoring individuals who exemplify the highest level of dedication to Mount Sinai, compassion toward patients, and leadership among staff. Daisy M. Rodriguez, MS, MBA Administrative Director, AIDS Center Administration Interim Sr. Administrator, Department of Medicine Daisy came to Montefiore in 2008 joining the staff as the Administrative Director of the AIDS Center. Daisy has been working in the field of HIV/AIDS since 1995 having forged long and collaborative relationships with the New York State DOH AIDS Institute, Housing Works, Latino Commission on AIDS and with the Hispanic AIDS Forum where she currently holds the position of Board Chair. She also served on the Health and Human Services Committee of Community Board #3 (Manhattan) in 2000-2004. Daisy is a strong advocate for equitable health to the communities of color and stands strong in her belief of giving back to her Latino roots.
