Ken Rosato Anchor, Channel 7, WABC-‐TV, Eyewitness News

Anchor of Channel 7's top-‐rated Eyewitness News. He joined the team in 2003, coming from New York, where he was honored with a New York State Associated Press Award. Ken received his BFA in Television and Radio from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, and his MA in languages. He is a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, and has been honored Qive times with the New York Emmy Award. A native of New Rochelle, NY, Ken now makes his home in New Jersey, where he was named 2008 Man of the Year.

Luis A. Vasquez Chairman of the Board National Hispanic Chamber of Commerce on Health Luis has served as the president of the Long Island Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Acting Chairman of the Nassau County Heritage Festival, and a member of the Glen Knights of Columbus, the Nassau County Hispanic Parade Committee, the Molloy Multicultural Advisory Committee and Hofstra for Hempstead. Mr. Vazquez is co-‐owner of Casa De Vinos, which imports quality Qine wine from Chile and Latin America.

Zeppenfelt-‐Cestero Chair, Roundtable of Hispanic Professional Health Associations President Association of Hispanic Healthcare Executives President National Hispanic Chamber of Commerce on Health Mr. Zeppenfeldt has been a leading advocate in health care, small business development, and diversity for over 20 years. His advocacy in these areas resulted in his selection in 1995 as one of the 100 InQluential Leaders by Hispanic Business magazine. He has addressed diversity in the healthcare workforce on the 2004 Congressional Hispanic Caucus Policy Institute Health Care Panel and for the NYC Health and Hospitals Corporation.

Normandy Villa Scholarship Recipient Testimony Co-‐Chair, Student and Young Professional Committee, AHHE Normandy W. Villa is a health policy and management graduate student in the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University. His previous work with the New York State Health Foundation included development of a grantmaking strategy in primary care and implementation of a state-wide diabetes campaign. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University, where he studied history and health policy.




OPENING OF AWARDS PRESENTATION Clara Irizarry, MPA Role of Managers Council Co-‐Chair, Managers Council, AHHE Academic Administrative Manager for the OfLice of Academic Recruitment, OfLice of the Physician-‐in-‐Chief, Memorial Hospital , Memorial Sloan-‐Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) Ms. Irizarry has vast administrative experience in the health care field, believes in professional development and enjoys cultivating relationships with colleagues in healthcare. She designed the Office of Academic Recruitment’s operating model—which is now widely regarded as the paradigm for leadership recruitment organization-wide. As a member of the leadership team for the Managers Council sponsored by AHHE, she enjoys the collaboration, social events and opportunities for continued professional growth.

Jo Ivey Bufford, MD President, New York Academy of Medicine

Currently serves on the board of the United Hospital Fund, Public Health Solutions and the NYC Health and Hospitals Corporation and chairs the Public Health Committee of the State Public Health and Health Planning Council. She has received honorary degrees from the State University of New York- Brooklyn, New York Medical College, Pace University, and the University of Toledo. She has been a Fellow of The New York Academy of Medicine since 1988. Dr. Boufford received her BA from the University of Michigan, and her MD with distinction from the University of Michigan Medical School.

Commissioner, New York State Dpt. of Health “The Health Ecosystem” He heads one of the nation's leading public health agencies with a budget of more than $50 billion, and administers the state's public health insurance programs. Dr. Shah is board-certified in Internal Medicine and is an honors graduate of Harvard College and Yale School of Medicine. He is a nationally recognized thought leader in patient safety and quality, comparative effectiveness, and the methods needed to transition to lower-cost, patient-centered health care for the 21st century.

NATIONAL HOSPITAL CEO OF THE YEAR Bernie Fernandez, Jr., MD President Cleveland Clinic Florida Internist specialized in vascular medicine. He joined Cleveland Clinic Florida in 1991. Named CEO of Florida operations in June 2006 and a member of the executive team for the Cleveland Clinic Health System in 2001, after serving several years as chairman of the Division of Medicine. Dr. Fernandez received his medical degree from the Ponce School of Medicine in Puerto Rico. He recently earned an MBA from the University of Miami School of Business, and he also is a graduate of the Wharton School of Business Executive Development Program.




COMMUNITY HEALTH EXECUTIVE OF THE YEAR

Elizabeth H. Swain, MA President & CEO Community Health Care Association of New York State Elizabeth has spent the past 25+ years in community health system development, working directly with federally qualiQied health centers. In 1993 she and her colleagues founded the Community Health Plan of Washington, a statewide health insurance company in Washington State. Ms. Swain received her Masters in Sociology and Political Economics from Boston University, has written extensively in the Qield and been a guest lecturer and adjunct faculty at several colleges in public health policy and community health.







MEDIA EXECUTIVE OF THE YEAR Rossana Rosado Publisher & CEO El Diario / La Prensa Dominant force in New York media for 27 years. Overseeing the day-‐to-‐day operations of the oldest Spanish language newspaper in the country since 1999. She was recently named Director of Corporate Civic Empowerment Initiatives and Community Journalism Projects for ImpreMedia.. Awarded Honoring Women in New York in 2011, Ms. Rosado is truly an inspiring woman who continues to address diversity and leadership in her community daily.




MARKETING COMPANY OF THE YEAR Roy Cosme President & Founder Arcos Communications Cosme has been the chief strategist behind the creation and execution of public relations, marketing and public affairs campaigns that reach the hearts and minds of multicultural consumers. He maintains membership in a number of professional organizations and serves on local nonproQit boards, including the world-‐renown José Limón Dance Company and BronxWorks. He earned his Master in Public Administration from the John F. Kennedy School at Harvard University, and his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Yale University.







FOUNDERS AWARD Belen Cestero Being honored with the Founders Award for her initial funding of the Association of Hispanic Healthcare Executives (AHHE) 15 years ago. Without her support, we would not be here tonight. During her career, she has been an entrepreneur and owned a store in Washington Heights known as Attic Antiques. As a single parent, she was known for her disciplined work ethic, working two full time jobs for many years to support herself and her son, George A. Zeppenfeldt. Now weeks away from celebrating her 90th birthday, Ms. Cestero currently remains active by serving on the Advisory Board of the Washington Heights Neighborhood Senior Center/STARR, where she runs their fundraising bazaars. Doña Belen has a great sense of humor but most of all, she is devoted to her family and demonstrates unconditional love.




HOSPITAL MANAGER OF THE YEAR Shana L. Dacon Program Manager for Diversity Continuum Health Partners, Inc. Shana oversees programs, employee activities, and communications under the organization’s diversity and health initiatives promoting culturally competent care across Continuum’s hospitals and practice locations. Her management of Continuum’s Diversity Mentor Program, played a key role in DiversityInc, recognizing Continuum as one of the Top 10 Hospital Systems in the nation for excellence in diversity management. Ms. Dacon is an active member of the New York Regional Chapter of the National Association of Health Services Executives Committee, and holds a BS in Management from Binghamton University and an MPH in Health Policy and Management from Columbia University.







HOSPITAL MANAGER OF THE YEAR Ricardo A. Lazala, M.D. Senior Director, Clinical Services, Assistant Professor , Cardiothoracic Surgery The Mount Sinai Medical Center With over 25 years of healthcare experience, Ricardo A. Lazala, MD, leads the Cardiothoracic Surgery Clinical Services team. Creator of the Mount Sinai - Hospital General de la Plaza de la Salud (HGPS) Cardiovascular Initiative to provide cardiovascular surgery to patients in the Dominican Republic who have limited financial resources. In May 2012, Ricardo was presented the Mount Sinai Presidential Service Award, honoring individuals who exemplify the highest level of dedication to Mount Sinai, compassion toward patients, and leadership among staff. Dr. Lazala attended The Autonomic University of Santo Domingo.

Daisy M. Rodriguez, MS, MBA Administrative Director, AIDS Center Administration Interim Sr. Administrator, Department of Medicine Daisy came to Montefiore in 2008 joining the staff as the Administrative Director of the AIDS Center. Daisy has been working in the field of HIV/AIDS since 1995 having forged long and collaborative relationships with the New York State DOH AIDS Institute, Housing Works, Latino Commission on AIDS and with the Hispanic AIDS Forum where she currently holds the position of Board Chair. She also served on the Health and Human Services Committee of Community Board #3 (Manhattan) in 2000-2004. Daisy is a strong advocate for equitable health to the communities of color and stands strong in her belief of giving back to her Latino roots.
