The world is losing 25 billion trees a year and noteven one billion trees are replanted. Reforestationprojects remove and sequester CO2 from theatmosphere; not only do they help people planttrees and forests, they also bring participatingcommunities important economic and socialbenefits. The world’s most degraded lands canoften be saved by converting carbon into thingspeople need such as food, forage, bio-fuels,clothing, shelter, medicines, and organic fertilizer.By doing so, carbon is returned to the soil.

The major carbon dioxide emitting economies,their industries, and citizens are now underincreasing pressure to comply with internation-ally evolving agreements that seek to reduceGHGs in order to avoid the worst consequencesof climate change. Cooperation on the financingand implementation of large scale reforestationprojects is an efficient, low cost and win-winapproach for people, organizations and countriesto jointly meet the challenge of successfullymaking a peaceful transition to a globallysustainable lifestyle.

Planet2025 Communities convert CO2into things people need. Our integratedagroforestry strategy to sustainable development— the Forest Garden approach — addresses

global climate change by planting trees ondegraded land which create sustainable livelihoods,carbon offsets, biofuels, valuable ecosystemsservices, and Profits4Life™. Its goals and objectiveswill be realized by working with and linking localcommunities, financiers, organizations, and peoplearound the world to catalyze large-scale reforest-ation projects. Profit4Life™ generated by the initi-ative will be reinvested into scale up and expan-sion as part of an overall mission to help regen-erate the planet’s life-supporting ecosystems.

What makes this Profits4Life™ initiative standout is that is designed to:

Build on proven capacity building and trainingtechniques developed by our partner Treesfor the Future, a non-profit organization. For30 years, this organization has been successfullyhelping people plant trees (over 60 million ofthem), then forests, that save the world’s mostdegraded lands, that then enable participatingcommunities to create sustainable livelihoods,and remove and sequester carbon.

Enable local communities to apply for and securefinancing for qualified reforestation initiativesfrom donors, sponsors, and investors through anonline Planet2025 Communities Exchange whichmatches local communities in search ofsustainable livelihoods with donors and investorsin need of carbon credits, biofuels, andecosystems services.

Provide donors, sponsors, and investors withmeasurable results, including carbon credits, whichcan be tracked and monitored online at any time,including by means of advanced remote sensingland surface data, Google Earth project coordi-nates, and video clips. Our partner, the Instituteof Environmental Security, is a pioneer inusing remote sensing monitoring techniques topromote conservation of ecological assets.

2008 Pilot Phase

Planet2025 Communities and its partners have identified pilot project areas and localcommunities in Ethiopia,Haiti, the Philippines,and Honduras. Our goalis to plant a combinedtotal of 12 million trees,removing 300,000 tonsof CO2 from theatmosphere andgenerating sustainable livelihoods for over 45,000 families.

During implementation of the pilot projects,actions will be undertaken to develop andactivate the online Planet2025 CommunitiesExchange — which shall be used to match local communities with donors, sponsors, andinvestors internationally — to facilitate capacitybuilding efforts through education, training, ande-learning as part of a franchise strategy.

Offsets4Life™ are usually fully deductiblefrom taxes. Purchased on a voluntary basis, theircost typically averages 15 cents per tree.
