Where  should  we  start?  

•  How  do  we  make  decisions  and  get  the  support  we  need…?  

         ….for  those  of  us  as  parents  how  do  we            decide  what  is  right  or  not  for  our  child,  which            school  or  college,  what  to  do  on  a  Saturday            morning,  what  happens  if  you’re  going  to  be            late  home  from  work?  

   

       ….most  young  people  are  able  to  think  about          their  future  in  terms  of  who  they  wish  to          spend  Ime  with,  where  they  might  like  to  live          in  the  future,  what  job  they  may  want…                              …..and  yet!!!!!  

Personalisa*on  is……..  

•  StarIng  with  the  child,  young  person  and  their  family  /  those  closest  to  them……  

•  SupporIng  them  to  think  about  their  life  and  how  they  would  choose  to  live  it  and  designing  with  them  the  support  they  need  to  do  this……  

‘Personalisa*on’  gets  a  bad  name…..L  ….in  other  words  giving  children,  young  people  and  families  choice  and  control  gets  a  bad  name  

•  …it’s  all  about  budgets,  RAS,  care  and  support  planning  

•  …it’s  just  another  way  of  cuNng  budgets  and/or  taking  money  away  from  schools/colleges  or  where  its  most  needed  

•  …it’s  a  way  of  geNng  families  to  do  more  and  the  state  to  do  less  

•  …it  drasIcally  increases  safeguarding  issues  

•  …it’s  leO  wing,  right  wing,  privaIsaIon……  

What’s  a  bit  of  hard  work  when  it  can  make  so  much  difference…..  

 ……a  job  shared….?  

 …..this  is  why  we  are  here  today!  

If  that’s  what  personalisa*on  is  what  has  been  done…….  

•  Over  2,500  families  and  young  people  having  more  choice  and  control  over  their  support  and  how  they  live  their  lives  ….many  parents  and  young  people  talking  about  the  difference  this  has  made  to  them  in  a  very  posiIve  way  

•  Government  policy  –  Children  and  Families  Act,  Care  Act,  NHS  mandates…….  The  list  goes  on  now  all  championing  a  more  personalised  approach  to  supporIng  different  groups…..  

•  Workforce  development  programmes  built  around  a  focus  on  child/family  and  person  centred  approaches  

….and  its  not  just  about  one  group  of  children  and  young  people  

So…..  •  We’ve  done  a  good  job  in  geNng  started  

•  We’ve  only  just  touched  the  surface  of  the  potenIal  of  personalisaIon  and  the  work  which  needs  to  be  done  

•  We  need  to  work  together  ……the  CYPPN!!  (or  maybe  we’ll  have  a  snappier  name  by  the  end  of  the  day  …how  daring  will  we  be!!!!)  

 

This  is  simply  about  children,  young  people  and  families  having  choice  over  how  they  live  their  life  and  control  over  how  they  are  supported  to  do  so  ….common  sense  an  very  simple
