Citation preview
What was once Cherokee Indian Territory is today the
historic Town of Pendleton, founded in 1790.
Pendleton was established to
serve as the judicial seat
for the Pendleton District -
today’s Anderson, Oconee
and Pickens Counties. Courthouse later Farmer’s Hall, c.1826 on Village Green
Pendleton History
Many major towns in the state had a Pendleton Street because it
led to this important courthouse town in the upper regions of the
state of South Carolina.
Scot-Irish immigrants discovered a primitive lifestyle. Low-
country plantation owners built summer homes to escape the
summer heat and revolutionary War heroes established homes
in the area.
People keep those traditions alive as they trek to this lovely town
with its quaint Village Green to embrace life in a small town.
Pendleton History
Pendleton 225 and Alive! is a town-wide celebration of all
things Pendleton.
During 2015, events, activities …. some new, some special
editions of perennial favorites, will commemorate the town’s
225th birthday.
Individuals, neighborhoods, businesses, churches, and local
organizations will be planting daffodils for an unbelievable
2015 Springtime in Pendleton.
225 new trees will be planted around town.
Year-long Celebration
Committee
Formed in 2013, a group of enthusiastic citizens came
together to form a committee to celebrate Pendleton’s 225th
birthday.
The committee sought out civic groups, institutions of
higher learning, churches, and citizens to “brainstorm”
ideas for a yearlong celebration – all under the guidance of
the town of Pendleton.
Committee
The mission of the
committee is to organize, seek
funding, and host a yearlong
celebration that highlights the
town’s story through its people,
schools, agriculture, textiles, the
arts and environment.
The logo captures the
essence of the committee’s mission
to showcase the vibrancy of the town
for residents and visitors alike.
