AsIstudiedthisstory,IthoughtaboutanarticleIreadaboutchildrenandtechnology.Amotherhelpedherchildunderstandthedifferencebetweengoodgamesandappsversusthe“junk”gamesandappsusinganillustrationofjunkfoodvs.healthyfood.Thejunkfoodtastesreallygood,buttoomuchofitharmsourbody.Weneedhealthyfoodtogrowandbehealthypeople.AsIreadthispassage,IthinkJesuswastryingtoremindustofillourbodieswithhealthyspiritualfood,andthatthejunkwon’tsustainus.Thepeoplehadjustbeenfed.Theyhadwitnessedhow5loavesofbreadand2fishcouldfeedthousandsofpeople.Hehad“giventhemthisday,theirdailybread.”Iwonderediftheywokeuphungrythenextday,andwentoutlookingforJesusagain.Jesusalsoknewtheywerelookingformorefood,

Craft 1: Salt Dough SuncatchersMakingdoughremindsusofhowwemakebread,andbycreatingasuncatcherwithsaltdough,werememberthatJesusisthebreadoflifeandthelightoftheworld.Yes,Jesuslovesus!

MATERIALS:

• Flour

• Salt

• Water

• Ponybeads

• Cookiecutters

DIRECTIONS:

1. Tomakethesaltdough,mix2cupsflour(allpurpose),1cupsaltand3/4cupwarmwater.Stiringredientstogetherinabowluntiltheystarttoformadough.Thenremovefrombowlandkneadoncounteruntilthedoughissmooth.

2. Giveeachpersonaballofsaltdoughtorolloutorpounditintoacircleabout1/4-inchthick.Cutadesignoutofthemiddle.Youcanuseacookiecutteroryoucanfreecutashape.Aheartissuggested(torememberthatJesuslovesus),butyoucandoahandprint,cross,flowerorsomethingelse.

1. Inthecenterofthepaperplate,drawacircle(suggestion:tracethebaseofacoffeemugoradrinkingglass).

2. Alongtheedgeoftheplate,makemarkswithpencilatregularintervals(keepthemevenlyspaced).You’llneedanODDnumberofmarks.Onceyouhavethemarksmeasuredout(remember,youneedanODDnumberofmarksandthespacesbetweenthemneedtoberoughlyequal),usescissorstocutslitsfromeachmarkattheedgedowntothelineofthecircleyoudrew.(Imagineapaperplateflowerwithacentercircleandpetals.)

3. Bendeachofthepetalsupfromthepencilcirclelinetoa90degreeangle,toformtheshapeofyourbowl.Ifanyofthesectionsoverlap,trimtheedgesabittomakethegapsbetweenthepetalswider,sothere’snooverlap.(Youwanttomakealittlespacebetweeneachofthepetals.)

4. Slidetheendoftheyarnintoonetheslits.Pushitdowncompletelytothecircle,thenholdatailofafewinchesoverthebaseofoneofthepetalsandbegintoweavethelongendinandoutoverthebaseofeachpetal:overone,andunderthenext,untilyou’vegoneallthewayaround.Letthetailhangoutanddon’tworryaboutitfornow—you’lltuckitinlater.

1. Inabowl,combinealltheingredients.Useawoodenspoontostiruntilthedoughisroughlycombined.

2. Kneadthedoughfor2-3minutesuntilitisfullycombinedandlookslikeadoughball.

3. Cutthedoughinto12equalsizedportions.Rolleachportionintoaball.

4. Workingwith1doughballattime,rolloutthetortillawitharollingpin(usingsomeextraflour).Donotstackthetortillas.
