NAPA experience & implementation• Gender & Social Inclusion (GESI) issue was

evaluated important and dealt in cross-cutting manner

• Women were identified as climate vulnerable group and their overall development were prioritized by developing number of projects

• One of the NAPA project – LAPA was implemented targeting capacity building of women for participation in adaptation activities and building resilience to adverse impacts of climate change

GESI approaches in NCCSP

• NCCSP has adopted gender equity approach inexecuting climate change adaptation programs

• Program targets equitable benefit sharing• Various capacity building programs for gender are

conducted• Gender Empowered by addressing their specific

needs, and enforcing 50% representation inCommittees at various level

• Gender--disaggregate data are generated andreported employing Management InformationSystem (MIS)

Recognition of NCCSP

• Approach of integrating adaptation into local level planning process was recognised within 5, out of 170 submissions from several countries, under the Nairobi Work Programme, in Paris in 2015

• Received ‘People’s Champion’ award from Adaptation Funds in 2016 Global Photo Contest

• Three adaptation implementation photos received ‘Honourable Mentions’

Hariyo Ban experience• Aims in reducing threats to biodiversity due to

adverse impacts of climate change

• Gender & social inclusion are considered cross--cutting theme• Targeting for achieving social justice• Improving planning environment (developing

& implementing) for gender equality• Ensuring equitable benefit sharing adopting

systematic effort• Promoting gender mainstreaming in policy

and institutions

Moving towards NAP process• MoPE have launched the NAP formulation process

in September 2015

• Employing the concept of Thematic and Cross--cutting working groups as per experience of NAPA

• Gender and social inclusion will be achieved by Stand alone working group and work as a Cross-cutting group to Integrate gender into agreed 7 thematic areas

• The Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare will coordinate this working group

Guiding approach for NAP

• Establishing working groups to coordinate the thematic areas/sectors

• Utilising existing coordination mechanism and employ inter sector collaboration for improving effectiveness and building synergy

• Building capacity and employing enhanced understanding on climate change adaptation

• Building ownership and avoiding duplications • Promoting multi-stakeholder participation• Aligning with national policies and linking with

recent initiatives (DRR and SDGs)

Guiding approach for NAP

• Ensuring gender sensitivity and inclusiveness• Focusing for poor and rural people• Generating, communicating and utilizing

knowledge and good practices available• Adopting “Development first” with integration of

adaptation actions• Emphasizing traditional and local knowledge on

ecosystem--based and community--based adaptations activities

• Making infrastructures adaptive and climate resilient

Conclusion• Consultation & interaction will be the backbone

of NAP process. Outcome document ( as--stocking, vulnerability assessment, identification and prioritization of adaptation report etc.) will be agreed by stakeholders following extensive consultation & addressing valuable comments
