Our Three Thriller Film Ideas

Page 2: Thriller film ideas

Idea 1 - Main plot will involve a middle aged man who captures children.

The audience will never find out if the children are killed or not.

Missing posters will be displayed everywhere.

The use of running, and using jump cuts and fast paced sound affects e.g. a heartbeat, running footsteps.

The use of a concealed image to hide the man’s identity, for example, one shot will involve him standing up and smoking whilst looking at a board full of missing posters of a child he has captured, but we will only see the back of him; the camera will zoom out of the board to reveal the back of him.

Using editing techniques such as cutting straight to black when he captures the running child by hitting them on the head.

We want the plot to be confusing so we will not allow the audience to see any of the children’s fates after they have been captured.

The main prop we will be using is a cigarette as that is the only thing the audience can use to understand the capturers character, other than the fact that he will be dressed in very dark clothing.

We are going to use low key lighting to create an eery atmosphere.

Mainly diegetic sound will be used to express the reality of the film, showing the audience that the plot of the film can actually happen in real life.

Idea 2 - Main plot will involve an elderly man who seems very innocent, but who is actually a hitman.

One of the main shots we want to use is of the man drinking whiskey. We want to film this from the back so we don’t see who he is and keep his identity secret to imply that he is a secretive person like a hitman would be.

Another shot we want to use is of when he leaves the room from drinking whiskey and we want to zoom the camera in through a window, so it goes from the outside to the inside all in one shot, which we will edit to do.

Another important part of this film is the initial killing, the audience will see the man walk upstairs, dressed in a dressing gown and walk into a bedroom and close the door behind him. From behind the door we hear horrific screaming which suggests that the man has been murdered or has murdered someone; this is what will confuse the audience even more.

After the killing, we find out that he has murdered a woman in her own home. So the home he was drinking the whiskey and sitting in a dressing gown in, was actually his victims home. After he has killed her, he will take off the dressing gown to reveal a sharp suit underneath; which will seem odd and strange to the audience.

We want to use mainly diegetic sound and minimal dialogue to keep the audience focused on the reality and confusion behind the mans identity.

The only piece of non diegetic sound we will use is a small clip of a tape player, which is playing a very old school happy song, which the man will switch on whilst drinking the whiskey.

The audience will never know the ending to the film and what he will do next as it will cut very quickly after it has zoomed out on the man telling his ‘boss’ that the target has been killed.

Idea 3 - The main plot behind this film is about two hitmen working together, but the audience will not know that they

are hitmen until the very end, and will not know that they are working together until the ending either.

The first shot will show a woman blindfolded in a forest, the audience won’t know why she is there until the end, which will start of the confusion process.

Next we will see a middle aged man going up to an ordinary house and knocking on the door, and asking the woman who opens it if he can borrow a moment of her time for a survey. The man is holding a briefcase but the audience do not know why.

The woman will then let him in and offer him a drink and ask him if he wants to sit down. Slowly, as the conversation unfolds, the audience will start to get suspicious of the man but still be wondering what the blindfolded woman has to do with any of it.

Then we will see the man get a gun out of his briefcase and shoot the woman on the sofa. When he is about to shoot her, the screen will go immediately black when we hear the gunshot.

That is when it cuts back to the woman in the forest and we see another man appear behind her and pull out a gun and shoot her. Still, the audience are confused as to why this has happened.

Next we will hear a conversation between the two men on the phone, but not be able to see them, all the audience will see is a cat go up and lick the dying woman’s hand in her house. That is when it will cut to black again and the dialing tone of a phone will be heard.

Some of the shots used will be an over the shoulder shot in the forest of the woman blindfolded. Also, a close up shot will be used of the cat licking it’s owners hand.

We will use quite a lot of dialogue in this film as we want to confuse the audience by having the characters speak about completely normal and everyday topics but still with the idea of the woman blindfolded in their mind.
