These poems are from a collection by Eve Merriam entitled “Thinking of You”…And in keeping with the title, here is a poem called “Thinking of You”;sorry, but
I do not know who wrote it…
THINKING OF YOU………….
At night
In the dark
Thinking of you
The sky
Becomes
So bright
I have to put on sunglasses.
Night Scene….
I make no magic claims
Only
I have so arranged things
That you can never look
At the new moon
Or the full moon
Without thinking of me.
Sizing Up…
I want to be smallerThan a computer chip
So that wherever you goI can slip in
To a corner of your walletThe lining of your glove
Even burrow under the buttons of your vest.
Untitled
I speak wordlessly to you
Will you answer me?
In the silence
I hear you.
Secret Pages
I want to be a notebookThat can fit into your pocket
The pages turning to revealSecret poems
The poems Invisible and necessary as air
Surrounding you
Simile poemsAll the delights of the world
That I can liken unto you
And one metaphor poemAs we become each other.
What is fragrant?
The meadow in clover.
What is golden?
The sunset on water.
What is endless?
The long days of summer
What is sorrow?
The summer is over.
SUMMER VACATION
My Acrobatic Circus Dream
To crash through
The hoop of separation
And
Land
softly
In
your arms.
Entering my life……
That day rivers
Oh that day turning purple as berries
A rush of
White dovesLike snowflakes
Falling upward
There should have Been traffic lights
A wild sign meltinginto parks
A wild signTo let me know
That was the dayI would see you for
the first time
Your Hair
Your hair
Is a web
of Japanese silk
For me to weave
my fingers through
Symbiotic
You’re the moonlightI’m the dark
You’re the oceanI’m the fish
You’re the tower I’m the stone
You’re the wishboneMake me your wish
Three Ways to Fly…….
Wings on a skylark
fins on a dolphin
your hands touching me…….
Viewpoint
Sometimes when the tideIs on the way In
It looks as if it is on the way out.
I remind myself of thatWhen I think aboutOur fight last night.
The Line….
When there’s silence on your end,The telephone lineIs a strangling ropeA dark jungle vine;
But let your voiceRespond to mine:
Then the knots untangleAnd everything’s fine.
TomorrowMay be the day
That you won’t lookThrough me.
InsteadYou’ll stopAnd lookInto me.
Maybe……..
