My target audience are young adults aged 16-25 mainly male gender, but it will be aimed at female gender who listen to hip pop and rap music. This group of people will be people who have an understanding in the music industry, and people who are educated. I will also aim my magazine at people who are socially interactive, meaning they like to be update and like to know the latest gossip on music artists as well as rap and hip pop music in general. My target audience will be people who listen to artist like Usher, Chris brown, Rick Ross, Justin Timberlake, drake, ymcmb etc. I will target people who already read magazines like XXL, VIBE and Billboard because my magazine will be based on the same sub genre as these magazines. Why I have chosen this target audience….. I have chosen this group of people as my target audience because I listen to rap and hip pop music, I know what people want from a music magazine as I am apart of the target audience group. These artists are the people that I listen as well as look up to, so I could feature these people in my magazine as they fit the music genre. I could make my magazine so that it fits the target audience by making it look mature and understandable for modern day young adults.

In my questionnaire I had asked a group of questions with set of answers. The questions asked where both quantitate and qualitative. The quantitative questions in my questionnaire where helpful as I could collect the data simply and get a percentage at the end of how many people chose what answer, the enabled me to see the differences and compare them with each other. The qualitative questions helped me in my research to get more detail from my target audience and analysis their answer in more depth as well as get a personal opinion. I asked people in the age group between 16-25 as they are my target audience. Also I asked 6 males and 4 females because I wanted to get more views and opinions from males as my magazine will be mainly aimed towards them. I asked people who listen to pop, hip pop, rap and RnB as that is the sub genre of my magazine.

What the results tell me and what they might mean?

From the data collected we can see that vibe magazine has the most that people would buy. Vibe had a percentage of 37% the most popular magazine choice. The second most popular was billboard that had a percentage of 27%. This could be because both vibe and billboard are similar in content, this data now helps me in my research as now I will try to feature the same content and artists as billboard and vibe and use the magazines as inspiration when making my own.

From the data collected I can see that my target audience tend to buy magazines weekly, from looking at the feedback weekly has 40%. The second highest was once a month at 30%. This gives me an idea to release my magazine weekly as my target audience are willing to buy it weekly or monthly. However 20% said that that they would never buy music magazines, this is an opportunity for my magazine in the market as there is a gap in the market for a magazine that I could be making and filling in the market.

What the results tell me and what they might mean?

From the data collected I can see that the most popular choice was £3.00-£3.99 at 50%. The second most popular choice was £2.00-£2.99, from this I can see that people are willing to pay a decent price, as they expect quality, but not paying over the top prices. This gives me an idea for what my target audience will be willing to pay.

What the results tell me and what they might mean?

From the data collected I can see that the most popular choice was once a year at 60%. From this I can see that people may not go regularly, this could be because the people I asked where between 16-25, this age group are unemployed students or students with a part time job who are on a tight budget. However this will help me when making my magazine as I can think about putting up offers that are affordable for my target audience.

5) What would you expect to find in a music magazine?

In this questioned asked I wanted to see what people would usually expect from a music magazine. This was because I wanted to change the or add to peoples expectations. People had mostly said things like interviews with bands and artists, reviews of albums or songs recently out. Also people said that they’d expect poster for specific bands or artists. Usually students like to get the most out of the money they are paying as they don’t work or have part time job, and getting a poster for free inside a magazine is like a bonus to them.

6) What genre of music would you listen to the most and why?

In this question I wanted to find out what my sort of music and artist my target audience like to listen to. I feed back I got was a music genre like; Music genre- music artist- • RnB Justin Timberlake • Hip pop T.I • Rap 50 cent • POP YMCMB • Drum & bass Paul van drk The information collected tells me that my target audience like to listen to this type of music because their friends listen to the same music or they like a particular artist who produces music. This information I have received now gives me and idea of what type of music and artist to feature as this is what my target audience like.

8) Besides music what other things do you like to read about in a magazine?

In this answer I wanted to see what other things that people like to read about besides music in a magazines. The sort of things that people like reading besides music where things like what the artist are wearing in the image, gossip on new albums being released as well as getting to know more about the artists and bands personal life. So when making my own magazine I could include these things in my magazine as my target audience like to see this in a magazine which would makes magazines more enjoyable to read.
