Typical PostersSo far from my research, I have found that there are two main types of posters.Older posters seem to contain alot more information. Usually at the bottom they include many elements such as each actor name, soundtrack info, film companies etc. However, newer posters do not include all of this information. They include just the basics; film name, tagline, release date and maybe the main actor or directors name. This type of poster can be much more effective in terms of attracting the audience. They look alot neater and much more professional.

The newer poster.

•The first thing that strikes me in this picture is the image itself. A very strong image, any fan would recognise the image and its boldness, recognising the movie.•The background colour also compliments the poster well, in a way framing the central image having a greater overall effect. •The poster generates a darker feel and representation for the movie. Giving an insight into a genre or story line. This could be used to great effect in my piece as it obviously does need to be dark, dull and somewhat depressing.

More posters

Again, the colours in this poster are what matter most. Pale, dark, dull. They all match the style of film and more importantly, the character featured. There is also a continuous colour scheme and font running throughout each movie poster, trailer, title sequence and overall film. This will be necessary in my coursework to obtain the same mood and feel throughout each piece. You will also notice the quote on the poster, a line from the film which will be recognised by many fans. This could be used to great effect, as long as the quote is selected carefully to draw attention and represent the character well. For my film I could use a line from the poem, one of the more effective and violent lines maybe?

Selective Colour

The most obvious thing in this picture would be the attention drawn towards the logo in the background. Orange on a dark background results in this. This presents a selective colour effect. This is one thing I anticipate to use in my coursework. Using the selective colour on the features eyes. Adding a few extra effects to them to make them bright enough to become a main attraction feature.

My posterIn my opinion the perfect poster will be a mix up of both of these types. As it is initially for a teaser trailer, there must be little information and insight into the film, however not so little that nothing makes sense. It must be very memorable.I plan to include a little more than the basics stated above, including a film company, some basic info about the soundtrack and maybe my name taking director /producer roles. Following usual movie poster conventions, I will include this information at the bottom so it does not effect any of my poster. I do not want to risk drawing any attention away from the purpose of the poster, to attract and advertise. I would also like to include a quote from the film as i feel that this matches the teaser trailer perfectly.
