Film Trailer 1Apartment 1303 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ruBY0VhY1I

I like the use of the non diegetic sound over the top of the trailer because it sounds like shutters closes and is almost like the person is running out of time. It also helps to build up a great feel of tension and makes the viewer stand on the edge of their seat wondering what is going to happen next. I also like the use of the young girl as the main ghost character as it gives the film that extra spooky feel. I like in the picture below how the woman bends down into the sink and we see the ghost behind her. This is really effective because it makes the viewer jump and realise that the women is in danger. It makes you wonder what is going to happen next so this makes you want to watch the film. I like the use of the scream of the ghost when she is hiding behind the shower curtain as this adds to the effect of the horror genre and puts us on edge because we wonder what is going to happen next. I like how the woman is dragged across the floor by the ghost because this is what we usually expect in certain horror films. I also think that this is effective and I might think about using this when I begin to make my own film trailer.

Film Trailer 2The Apparitionhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkmzXVwLtH0

I like how over the top of the trailer at the beginning that there is a voiceover telling us that there is a ‘scientific theory’ which makes us feel automatically that the film is real and builds up more tension. I like the use of the words that are played quite quickly because this allows a sentence to build up ‘that ghosts only exist when we believe them in our minds’. This is my opinion makes the film automatically more scary. I like the loud screams that come from the female as she gets thrown back and disappears underneath the house, this makes the trailer a lot more dramatic and gives that eerie feel. I like the use of the cracks which go across the ceiling because of the bangs that the ghosts are creating, this is very effective and makes you on the edge of your seat.

Film Trailer 3Paranormal Activity 4http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7Xn2JqH5ng

I like how the film is basically like its on film itself. Its like were watching a video recording of the events but so are the people. The non diegetic music played over the trailer builds up a slow amount of tension and makes the trailer instantly more scary, linking in excellently with the horror genre. I think the way the chandelier drops in front of the young girl when she is going to see what has happened makes the viewer jump because they wonder who has done it and that they are serious. The picture below of the female up in the air because of the paranormal activity is effective because it allows the viewer to see that something bad is happening in the house and its not a particularly nice ghost. The use of the diegetic sound when you can hear the girl panting loudly is the most effective in the film because it builds up tension and allows us to know that something is about to happen. It also shows that she is scared and this links in excellently with the genre.

Film Trailer 4The Purge http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0LLaybEuzA

I think that the use of something being true like a true statement being used in a trailer is always effective because it makes the film seem more real and you feel like you are in reality. The use of the soundtrack played over the top at the beginning when everything is happen allows us to see that at first the family are happy but everything changes when the purge begins and there home becomes a living human slaughter house. The change in music in the second half of the trailer goes from happy music to horrific music because the scene changes and the purge begins. This shows that something bad is happening. The use of the door closing on the families house and the ‘shutter’ noise when it closes gives a dramatic effect and makes us feel like they are safe and locked away from the outside world, little do they know. I think that the use of the doorbell being run makes us no that danger is apparent and that something bad is about to happen to the family because they have let in a stranger that they do not know.

Film Trailer 5Would you rather http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=it5XICr93wU

The use of the non diegetic sound at the beginning of the trailer sounds like footsteps and makes the viewer feel like someone is running to save their lives from the unknown or something else. The diegetic sound of the clock ticking could be foretelling that time is ticking away and they need to hurry up and save themselves before they die. I think that the use of the fast changing slides allows the viewer to see more of the film in several non chronological events but events that happen at different times throughout the film all in one. This allows the viewer too see more as more of the film is revealed. This meaning that they would want to go watch the film to see what actually happens in the end. The change at the end of the trailer to classical music actually links in with the theme of the film because it allows us to know that the film is almost like a game and the music portrays this at the end.
