Tragedy elements are that a protagonist has to suffer some kind of separation from his society. He also has to make some kind of bad judgments. Usually
deaths which more often than not occur at the end of the play. The elements are…..
Supernatural elements: are witches and ghosts
Tragic hero: a person with noble qualities and a flaw in his character
A person against the environment/or a Tragic error : some disorder that has been committed against the laws if nature and
needs to be corrected.
A person against herself/himself…conflict with some element in his/her nature, maybe physical, mental, emotional, or moral.
Conflict….with country or with the hero himself..a clash of actions, ideas, desires or wills
A person against a person/ or Revenge….the hero is usually often revenge or he is being avenged.
Artistic Unity- essential to a good plot; nothing irrelevant, good arrangement.
Plot Manipulation- a good plot should not have any unjustified or unexpected turns or twists, no false ideas.
Sad ending….the death, downfall or destruction
Comic relief….some light scenes to relieve the stress of tragic events.
What is a foil?
It is a person that contrasts with another character usually the protagonist in order to highlight various features of the main character’s personality. A foil usually has some important characteristics in common with the other character, such as superficial traits or personal history.
