Band album idea 1 My first initial idea for my band album was originated from Pendulum. Since Pendulum are a drum and bass/rock band I wanted my music for this album to be similar. Thinking of a name was tricky as I wanted it to relate to the genre and style of my band. Since drum and bass/rock is a rather extreme form of music I wanted something that would suit the genre when it came to both the name of my band as well as the design. As I studied the design of Pendulums albums further I noticed that each had a different style that related to specific elements. Pendulum in Silico was made up of red, yellows and blues and had a rather techy style to it, Hold your colours which was their second album was made up of greens and purples and had a more surreal taste to it, which was also illustrated by the design idea of having the eye in the middle of the album cover. Their third album titled Immersion had an ocean them to it, consisting of Cyan, blues and pinks to represent not only water but sea creatures such as Jellyfish and luminous fish. This design tied in well with most of the song names and tracks as many had a theme which related to water. I planned to try producing an album that had a style about it that hadn’t yet been used for any of the pendulum albums which eventually led to the idea of doing something relating to fire. Upon further research into my idea I started to move towards the idea of having the album cover themed after a smelting factory, consisting of flames and fire as well as machinery as this is the sort of thing that would usually be included in a drum and bass/rock styled album. I then eventually thought that I would go with a basic and simple design so that people weren’t overwhelmed with huge numbers of pictures and extreme photography being used just for a cover.

Band album idea 1• My first initial idea for my band album was originated from Pendulum. Since Pendulum are a drum

Band album idea 2• My second album idea was inspired by Linkin Park, which usually consists of rather dark,

punkish material and style. Whilst trying to figure out way which to style my second band idea I referred back to the Linkin park album Hybrid theory which is my favorite album design by them. A lot of the artwork for the album consists mainly of street art and rather grim colours such as grey’s, whites and blacks but usually have one coloured aspect that stands out, in this case the graffiti of the man on the front. I don’t intend on having the same design done to my second band album cover but something of a similar quality. I planned for my album to have an obvious contrast between greyscale and colour as that is normally the sort of approach that most of Linkin parks artwork follows. I eventually went with the idea of having paint and graffiti illustrating colour against a grey and dull background so that peoples attention is drawn immediately towards the colour and contrast of the album. When it came to deciding on names for the album I wanted to have names for songs and the album which would reflect on what the design of the album was about. Since it relates to colour I eventually went with the album name “Painted rain”. After this I chose to have song names that related to one of the two factors that are given in the title (Either relating to paint or rain).

Band album idea 3• For my third album design I didn't get any inspiration from any existing

albums or bands. I wanted to try and produce something that hadn’t really been done before and would stand out on the shelves of music stores. For my band I wanted to do something that related to steampunk, so consisting of steam, gears but with a twist to it also so that it wasn’t just consisting of one colour. For the layout I didn’t want to produce anything too cluttered but at the same time I wanted to produce something that did make it stand out and catch peoples eye. I then came up with the idea of having the album consisting of a chain of gears but with one of the gears standing out from the rest. This adds an unusual look to my work and also relates it to the name which I have come up with for the album, Black gear. I wanted this album to be a mix of punk music and rock music as these are the sorts of genre that appeal to me. For this reason I wanted the names of the songs to suit the album and band name so like my first band album idea, I tried to come up with names that related to this genre.
