My artist

Unlike the other two artists, Florence and the machine are a band, but are fronted by a female singer. Their genre is typically known to be indie rock. Their style is said to be dark and romantic, and focus on themes such as love, death, pain, time etc. This gives the impression that that their audience may be girls of around early twenties who have recently started to go through some of these issues and feel they can relate to the music.

Meg Myers is a fairly young and new solo artist. Her genre is typically categorised as pop rock/alternative rock. Her style is said to contain elements of grunge and punk-rock but somehow mixed with pop. Her music seems slightly darker than Florence and the machine’s but also tackles many of the same themes. I believe she has the same type of audience as well, though Myers might relate more to teenagers than Florence and the machine.

Avril Lavigne is a solo artist who has been performing for around 15 years now. Her music genre tends to be seen the same as Myer’s as being pop rock/alternative rock. Her style has a slight punk element to it with song themes focusing heavily on relationships and self-empowerment with some of her more recent songs taking on deeper meanings. Of all the artists I believe she relates the most to a younger crowd.

Album Front covers

For my album I want to take inspiration from these three albums.

In this cover I like how she is positioned with her arms and how she isn’t looking out at the audience. I also like the use of the flowers and how the bright pink petals contrast with the dark greens.

I like the simplicity of this cover. I like how the artist seems far away but due to the lack of background, lighting effect, and central positioning, we are drawn directly to her.

This cover has my favourite outfit for the artist. I like how big the dress is making it seem to flow, and how the bright white colour makes it stand out against the background. The forest look with the background is also interesting.

Album back cover

The back cover of this one is simple black and white. It features a drawing which relates to the title of the album. I like the use of the black background and though I wouldn’t want either of my covers to feature just a drawing, I might include some drawings.

The back cover of this one is the same setting as the front cover, however it doesn’t feature the artist this time. I also like how some of the writing is faded as it is near the centre light effect.

The back cover of this one also continues the same setting and props as the first but this one has the artist. I like how the artist featured but in a different position. I also like the positioning of the text in this one and how it perfectly fits around the artist.

I believe I’ll take the most inspiration from the last two though I might incorporate the drawing aspect.

Potential front cover artWhen I was out looking for somewhere to take photos for my album, I found this tree in a field I feel would be perfect to have someone lying down in like in some of the photos on my mood board.

I then took one of the photos on my mood board of a girl lying in the woods…

…and roughly photoshopped it to give myself an idea of how it would look and got this.

Potential back cover artFor the back cover I will likely either take a photo of her again in the tree from a different angle, or possibly have one of part of her face.

Or not include her and just have the same/similar background but empty.

Or have a type of border with drawings of flowers.

Artist name fontsOf all the fonts my

favourites are these two.

I like how the font curls and reminds me of floral patterns/flowers.

I like the scribbles/carving effect ofthe font. It makes me think of edgy and rebellious.

I want my font to be curly and a little creepy, but not gothic.

Possible song choiceAt the moment I am thinking of doing a song by Meg Myers called “Sorry”.

Some of the lyrics are:

“My heart is wasted”

“These conversations choke us ‘til we’re numb”

“Sorry that I lost our love”

“It never feels enough”

“What do you want from me”

“Until the end of time”

The lyrics are important as I want the title of the album to relate to the song I’m going to use in my music video.

I therefore think my title will either be:

“Wasted”

“Numb”

“The end of time”
