Part 2: SkillsHow to create a costume sketch

(You will do 2 sketches yourself) Draw first with pencil, then color

with colored pencil or crayon You MUST use color (pencil is not

a color, leaving something white is not a color – color it white if you want it white).

Your designs MUST have hair. You may draw in a face if you

want, but it is not required.

Part 2: SkillsHow to create a costumes(You will create 4 costumes as a group) Cut off the mouth and jaw piece of old Halloween masks. Paint and decorate. Use felt and fleece to make rectangular throw-on tunics. For a short tunic, use

one yard of 45 inch material. Fold in half, then fold again. Cut a 3-inch cut for the head. Apply glue around the opening, if you wish. Add belts and sashes. (A brown tunic with a tail could suggest a forest animal, a yellow tunic with a paper duck bill could suggest a duck, etc.)

Baseball or soccer pants make great costuming pieces. Feathers or other objects on baseball hats, visors, or headbands create a

multitude of characters. Vests can be used for any character and are easy to sew by hand. Use layers of t-shirts as below:

Let the actor put them on in the order you request; three or four complimentary or contrasting colors work well.

With scissors, cut the first t-shirt short and with an uneven edge. Cut the next layer a little longer echoing the edge of the first t-shirt. Cut the third layer even longer. It could be low on one side and high on the other. With other t-shirts the edges can be cut into fringe, the sleeves cut out, the neck

enlarged, holes cut open to reveal skin or a different colored t-shirt underneath. Turn the t-shirt inside out to cover the logos. Cut the label off.
