Building Plan / Architectural Plan
An architectural plan is a type of plan for architecture to
describe a place or object, or to communicate building or fabrication
instructions. It can containing technical architectural drawings and
documentation, and are drawn or printed on paper, but they can take
the form of a digital file. Their purpose in these disciplines is to
accurately and unambiguously capture all the geometric features of a
site, building, product or component. Plans can also be for
presentation or orientation purposes, and as such are often less
detailed versions of the former. The end goal of plans is either to
portray an existing place or object, or to convey enough information
to allow a builder or manufacturer to realize a design.
Structural Design of Building
Structural engineering is a field of engineering dealing with the
analysis and design of structures that support or resist loads.
Structural engineering is usually considered a specialty within civil

engineering, but it can also be studied in its own right.
Civil engineers typically apply the principles of geotechnical
engineering, structural engineering, environmental engineering,
transportation engineering and construction engineering to
residential, commercial, industrial and public works projects of all
sizes and levels of construction.

Soil Investigation | Soil Test
Soil /Geotechnical investigations are performed by geotechnical
engineers or engineering professionals to obtain information on the
physical properties of soil and rock around a site to design earthworks
and foundations for proposed structures and for repair of distress to
earthworks and structures caused by subsurface conditions. This type
of investigation is called a site investigation.
Additionally, Geotechnical investigations are also used to

measure the thermal resistivity of soils or backfill materials required
for underground transmission lines, oil and gas pipelines, radioactive
waste disposal, and solar thermal storage facilities. A geotechnical
investigation will include surface exploration and subsurface
exploration of a site. Sometimes, geophysical methods are used to
obtain data about sites. Subsurface exploration usually involves soil
sampling and laboratory tests of the soil samples retrieved.
The Purposes of Building Foundations
The foundation is the lowest part of a building. It transmits the
load of the structure to the soil below. The main purposes of a
foundation are:
To distribute the load from the building over a large area
To load the substratum evenly so as to prevent unequal settlement
To take the structure sufficiently deep into the ground to prevent overturning

Building Construction
Building construction is the process of preparing for and forming
buildings and building systems. Construction starts with planning,
design, and financing and continues until the structure is ready for
occupancy.
Far from being a single activity, large scale construction is a feat
of human multitasking. Normally, the job is managed by a project
manager, and supervised by a construction manager, design engineer,
construction engineer or project architect. For the successful

Digital Land Surveying
Surveying is the process by which a surveyor measures certain
dimensions that generally occur on the surface of the Earth. Surveying
equipment, such as levels and theodolites, are used for accurate
measurement of angular deviation, horizontal, vertical and slope
distances.
With computerization, electronic distance measurement
(EDM), total stations, GPS surveying and laser scanning have
supplemented (and to a large extent supplanted) the traditional
optical instruments. This information is crucial to convert the data
into a graphical representation of the Earth's surface, in the form of a
map. This information is then used by civil engineers, contractors and
even realtors to design from, build on, and trade, respectively.
Elements of a building or structure must be correctly sized and
positioned in relation to each other and to site boundaries and
adjacent structures. Although surveying is a distinct profession with

separate qualifications and licensing arrangements, civil engineers are
trained in the basics of surveying and mapping, as well as geographic
information systems.
Construction surveying :
Construction surveying is generally performed by specialised
technicians. Unlike land surveyors, the resulting plan does not have
legal status. Construction surveyors perform the following tasks:
Survey existing conditions of the future work site, including topography, existing buildings and infrastructure, and even including underground infrastructure whenever possible;
Construction surveying (otherwise "lay-out" or "setting-out"): To stake out reference points and markers that will guide the construction of new structures such as roads or buildings for subsequent construction;
Verify the location of structures during construction;
As-Built surveying: a survey conducted at the end of the construction project to verify that the work authorized was completed to the specifications set on plans.
