A globetrotter, Wilma Klass has traveled to nearly 100 other nations while maintaining residence in New

York. Klass has utilized her interest in other nations in serving as a representative of

Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) at Long Island University in Greenvale, Nassau Community College in Uniondale, and the

Board of Cooperative Educational Services in Carle Place.

Run primarily by volunteers and headquartered in Virginia, TESOL possesses a global scope as it teaches

the English language to persons across the world. Its members adopt the organization's values of

professionalism in language education, quality instruction, international collaboration, and integrity.

Moreover, members of TESOL show a respect for individual language rights, diversity, and

multiculturalism. Through this program, students and teachers receive opportunities to enhance their careers

and respect for others.

Those who are interested in obtaining a degree or certification from this group should log onto

www.tesol.org. The site contains a section listing places that offer courses for language credentials.

Additionally, TESOL runs online courses and seminars such as English as a second language for secondary

mathematics teachers and for secondary science teacher, grammar courses on such topics as phrasal

structures, and specialty courses on subject including trends in student language assessment.
