A smartbook is a class of mobile device that combines certain features of both a Smartphone and notebook.[1][2] Smartbooks deliver features including always on, all-day battery life, 3G and/or Wi-Fi connectivity and GPS (all typically found in smartphones) in a laptop or tablet-style body with a screen size of 5 to 10 inches and a physical or soft touch screen QWERTY keyboard.[3]

Netbooks (sometimes also called mini notebooks or ultraportables) are a branch of subnotebooks, a rapidly evolving[1] category of small, lightweight, and inexpensive laptop computers suited for general computing and accessing Web-based applications; they are often marketed as "companion devices", i.e., to augment a user's other computer access.[1]

iPads in Corporations are filling a need for:

Agile workplaces in a volatile, complex world ◦ a large enterprise manages almost one trillion

business transactions. business changes have become much more rapid,

extreme and interconnected. The problem is: the resources we accomplish work with – our employees, business processes, capital assets and tools – are often too static and rigid to adapt quickly enough.

Mobility needs – needing to be everywhere with access to everything

Capabilities expanded with◦ SaaS◦ Cloud◦ Virtualization◦ The promise of broadband everywhere –

WiMAX development in the next 12 months will show, there has been a lot going on behind the scenes to make WiMAX the next great broadband technology, at the very least

3G HSPA technology — which already has a strong foundation in place in the cellular networks across the globe — is attempting to beat WiMAX to the punch with roaming wireless cards and fixed wireless modems that can bring broadband to rural areas and other places with little or no broadband

Cleaner and greener technology consciousness – ◦ Green use, green disposal, green design, and green manufacturing

◦ Gartner maintains that the PC manufacturing process accounts for 70 % of the natural resources used in the life cycle of a PC Therefore, the biggest contribution to green computing usually is to prolong the equipment's lifetime

◦ Desktop computer power supplies (PSUs) are generally 70–75% efficient, dissipating the remaining energy as heat. An industry initiative called 80 PLUS certifies PSUs that are at least 80% efficient; typically these models are drop-in replacements for older, less efficient PSUs of the same form factor. As of July 20, 2007, all new Energy Star 4.0-certified desktop PSUs must be at least 80% efficient.[

The prognosticators are divided on this: For as much ground as mobile devices have gained on desktops, the

experts agree that the desktop isn’t going to fade away completely anytime soon. Where resource-intensive tasks (CAD, engineering, content creation, video, high-end gaming, etc.) are concerned, high-end desktops will remain viable due to their comparably affordable pricing, processing power, and upgradeability.

Th Internet—“which really is the cloud”—combined with mobile apps “is changing the dynamics of computing. Most mainstream computing applications are tied to a network or the Internet, but with advancements in silicon and software, a PC is no longer required for most of those applications,” he says. “This has a huge potential impact for not just desktops, but all PCs”.
