And included it in the design of the Wentworth Point

Discovery centre.

sustainable ideas in our building and how they have helped us to

become more sustainable and how it has saved money.

Wentworth point Discovery Centre

What is sustainability?Sustainability is a very important concept to consider when building

everything because you do not want the building not function

properly. It means that it will last a long time and have a long term

effect on something or someone. We have considered sustainability

in our discovery centre by including;

• Solar panels- To provide energy to the centre, this energy will be

provided by the sun.

• Water tanks- To provide fresh clean and free water to our

discovery centre facilities, including; bathrooms, cafès and

bubblers.

• Double glazed windows- To keep warm air in the discovery centre

in the winter and cool air in during summer. This will help lower the

heating and air-conditioning that will be used.

Solar panelsBy installing a solar panel system we are going to

reduce the money that we spend on energy. By

installing solar panel we produce our own energy

which is good because it is better for the

environment and it is a lot cheaper. By installing a

solar panel system in your home you can reduce

power bills and produce clean electricity to your

home. Also once the solar panels are installed they

are very low maintenance and can improve the

value of your home.

Water tanks Some of the benefits of a rainwater tank are that you get a free

supply of clean water from the rain that comes down, you can wash

your car or water the garden when there are water restrictions. A

rainwater tank gives you a personal supply of water that is free. You

can get different types included above ground and below ground

types although some are more expensive or bigger than others they
