First, we will start with a bit of

history, a bit of maths, and a

bit of handwriting.

Ready??

Pythagoras

(c. 550BC–c.

495 BC)

He was a philosopher and a

mathematician.

He lived in Ancient Greece, or,

as some people call it,

Classical Greece.

Let’s write

Pythagoras

in your notebook.

Note: Always use capital P for

Pythagoras because it is a proper

noun.

Let’s write

Ancient Greece

in your notebook.

Note: Use capital letters for both words

because it is a proper noun.

The next slide is a map of modern-day

Europe. Can you find Greece?

The next slide is a map of Ancient

Greece.

Let’s write some of the place names in

your notebook. Don’t use all caps.

Let’s use the proper capital and lower-

case letters. They are all proper

nouns.

Ancient Greece had many cool things,

Including…

The first Olympic Games.

There are two main differences

between the ancient games and the

modern games:

1. No women were allowed to

compete in Ancient Greece.

2. They all competed in the nude!

Can you write a sentence about the

Ancient Greek Olympics?

Remember: what words need capital

letters?

The Ancient Greeks were great

architects. One of the most famous is

the Parthenon. It was a temple

dedicated to the goddess Athena.

Let’s write the name of that

building in your notebook.

Which do you think is correct:

Parthenonor

parthenon?

OK. Let’s get back to the ancient dude.

Do you remember his name?

He made an important and

famous discovery.

We now call it the Pythagorean Theorem.
