2. Emergence of Web 2.0 Tools Web 2.0 tools are rapidly becoming tools ofchoice for a growing body of classroomeducators. Web 1.0 has largely been a one-way medium. In 2004, the web became a two-way street, anda group of new web tools began to appear. By 2007, a second generation of the Web hadtaken over Web 2.0! 3. Characteristics of Web 2.0 Tools Web-based applications can be accessed from anywhere. Simple applications solve specific problems. Value lies in content, not the software used to displaycontent. Data can be readily shared. Students & educators can access and use tools on theirown. Social tools encourage people to create, collaborate, edit,categorize, exchange, & promote information. 4. Effecting Teaching & Learning What do todays graduates need to beproficient in both core subject and 21stcentury content and skills? Web 2.0 tools energize and motivatestudents, but teaching and learning strategiesare equally, or more important. 5. Impact on Teaching 6. Impact on Learning Uploading assignments to a class website. E-mail questions to their teachers. Work on assignments with distant peers using instantmessaging, online discussion forums, and wikis. Enables students with disabilities to participate more fullyin classroom instruction. Students are more independent, interaction, & engagedsocially. 7. Importance of Web 2.0 Tools Students must master vital 21st century skills! Students must be able to: Research using the Internet Assess information Work collaboratively Communicate effectively Think critically and creatively 8.
